  2. This was posted yesterday, I think. I'm adding it here to the end of this thread, since it didn't get placed there when it was originally posted. Woke this morning to over 120 notifications. My post regarding bansuri learning (see thread) has gotten far more reach than I expected it to. I've only gotten one possible lead and am still very much looking to connect with someone about this, but the boosts are really appreciated. thank you so much for the help so far!#Bansuri #BlindMusicians #Accessibility #MusicAccessibility #IndianClassicalMusic #Flute #IndianFlute #VisuallyImpaired #AskFedi

  3. Update: See thread for origional topic. I have a lesson set up with a western flute instructor who, even though she doesn't have a lot of knowledge about the Bansuri, she's willing to do some research for me to help me confirm hand placement and flute angle. I have also, thanks to a friend of mine, connected with someone from India who is also #Blind and a self-taught #Musician who has given me permission to pick her brain when necessary. A lot of the rest will come with time. Thankfully, with there being so many videos out there and my ability to play by ear, I have plenty of options to learn new material. I'll be placing an order soon for a G bass from Labu Flutes and later switch to a larger flute, which I will happily pay the higher price at this point to get made custom. Anubodh, though expensive, has communicated with me in both a timely and informative fashion regarding what he can customize for me and what exactly each customization will do. Would I like to find a good teacher from which to learn? Absolutely. But at least I'm no longer feeling stuck and/or caged by a lack of options. The number of boosts I've received has been amazing. Thanks, guys. Boosts are still welcome. #Bansuri #BlindMusicians #Accessibility #MusicAccessibility #IndianClassicalMusic #Flute #IndianFlute #VisuallyImpaired #AskFedi

  4. Okay hive mind, here's one for you. Ready? I'm a Totally #blind #musician looking to learn bansuri. Are there any blind/visually impaired bansuri players or Indian classical flute players out there? I’d love to know how you learned hand position and flute angle, particularly for larger flutes, without relying on visual demonstration. I have played the western concert flute for over 25 years, so getting a sound is easy. I'm also seeking accessible teachers/courses or live online lessons with strong verbal description. Boosts very much appreciated!

  6. CW: Long, sad

Welp, about all I've managed to do today is get my hands smelling like banboo with burnt holes in it. Great smell, but this first experience has been highly demotivating as far as first impressions go. The flute itself is gorgeous and sings well, but if you're not able to close the holes properly to start with, oh boy! This is one of those things where I'd love to have a hands-on, in-person lesson with somebody. Who knew that western flute playing was just... so damn different? I probably should've started out smaller. For me though, all that does is teach me how to play on a smaller flute. I can use the pads of my fingers all I want with the small ones, but that doesn't help me learn how to expand the reach of my ring finger for larger flutes. I feel terribly, terribly disheartened right now. Everywhere I've read, people just say oh... just practice for a couple of weeks, and you'll get the positioning right. How do you do that if you don't know whether you're starting out right to begin with? People say oh, playing E bass hurts... It's normal. Well guess what? Bad hand positioning hurts too. How does one know the difference between normal transition pain and bad positioning pain other than the really obvious 'extreme pain/tingling is bad' thing? I have never felt this disheartened by a wind instrument before. I'll find some way to get this right, but right now, I'm very, very lost. Apparently 25 years western flute playing doesn't mean smooth transition. #Bansuri

  7. Really quite sad now. The tracking info I've got for my #Bansuri says that the estimated delivery date was today. It's now just about 8 PM. I've not received any sort of notification saying that it's arrived to Canada, let alone anything else. The last update to the tracking status was from May 14, by the looks of things. It's coming from Bangladesh, so maybe it's like... stuck between carriers or something. This doesn't seem normal to me, but I've also never ordered anything from so far away before.

  10. Happy early birthday to me! It took some messing around and getting in contact with the company so they'd send me a manual order, but I did it! I will be getting my E-natural bass #bansuri shipped soon. Yay!

  12. So, I've been seriously looking into purchasing a #bansuri. Thanks to reviews from my favorite artist, Iftekharul Anam, I've found a flute maker called Labu Flutes. Their prices are more affordable $65 for an E bass rather than $265 from Anubodh or $439.75 from Punam). Shipping to Canada is either $50 or $85 though, depending on shipping method you choose, and the only sound samples I've been able to find are from Anam's reviews of their Signature series. I've been able to contact them through WhatsApp of all things, but finding sound samples to express the tonal differences between their Signature and Bold lines has been a nightmare. Labu says there are no sound samples of their other flute lines. Don't think Anam would be using Labu instruments in his stuff though if they weren't professional quality. Is it really this hard to find something both affordable and of good quality that I can get shipped to the Western world? Blah! The fact they're so cheap in India makes me sad. If you were to pay Punam's Western world price in Rupees, it'd be over 37,000. Normally, you pay a couple thousand, if I'm not mistaken. Wish this market weren't so annoyingly difficult to traverse. Who in India wants to send me a bansuri? I'd pay you back LOL. Western prices are stupid. #Rant

  14. Anyone in #Utah know where I might be able to take in-person #bansuri lessons? I understand that remote lessons are possible, but as a totally #Blind inividual, in person would be more ideal if physical technique needs to be adjusted and is better for direct manipulation of the fingers where necessary for proper form, etc.
