I hadn't heard of the Age Verification Providers Association #AVPA that lets people identify providers that can help them implement things like the UK Online Safety Act.
It's good to see there is such an association, but I still feel a government-run system would be preferable to using third parties for website providers ...

Is age verification killing porn site traffic? Aylo says yes, AVPA says no | BiometricUpdate
A comprehensive read on the current OSA state of play; notable is reportage of commentary by the age verification lobby’s Iain Corby apparently suggesting that the OSA is geared at protecting younger kids, also contradicting PornHub’s own reports of traffic drops:
AVPA agrees. Corby brings some heavy numbers to his talk, claiming that the association’s members saw 5.7 million age checks on the first weekend after the OSA came into effect. He argues that the VPN download statistics are skewed: “even if there were two or three million extra downloads of VPNs, that only really matters if it was a lot of 8-year-olds doing that. If it’s adults doing it just because they don’t want the trouble of doing that age check, then that’s not actually getting in the way of the implementation of the policy at all.”
…which makes me wonder whether they care about the collateral privacy and freedom damage on 16yo kids.

Age Verification Providers’ Association (AVPA) desperately seeks ways to minimise UK VPN adoption numbers
Traffic to top adult sites “from the UK” apparently “fell by 47%” with no mention of comparative increase of traffic “from” other countries like Belgium, Netherlands, USA, or Singapore; then we get an unsourced “7%” usage figure for under 18s accessing adult content and compute 47% of that. This is not how to argue via statistics:

Age Verification Providers’ Association now imagines it’s incumbent for platforms (i.e. everybody) to treat TCP connections which may be inbound from a VPN as “potential children”
Not all VPN connections are enumerated or known or knowable. Also: this is a step up from imagining that all items of content – globally – must now be individually classified & age-gated according to the UK’s Online Safety Act.
