  9. Tuli muuten mieleen, että kirjoittelin tänään opiskelijalle viestin: ”Don't come to school when Dick”. (Hän oli ilmoittanut olevansa nuhassa ja kysyi, tuleeko silti.) #autocorrect #opejuttuja

  10. I've finally convinced #Autocorrect that I'm unlikely to say "I don't give a **water bird**."

Now for the rare occasion when I want to keep my duck.

Heh, reminds me of circa 2001, when I had a coworker named "Grace Teh." MS Word LOVED her last name. XD

Come to think of it, that's probably when I adopted the silly tendency to accentuate things with misspelling, all-caps, and underscores, like TEH_GREATEST. XD

That was actually the first time I ever saw #AutoCorrect. Word didn't just red-squiggly-line her name, it instantly corrected Teh to The, and I had to learn to hit ctrl-z right after typing her name. ;)

  13. Apple autocorrect: I have never and will never use the word "Shiftiness." I often use the word "shittiness," however.

    Every fishing line.

  15. Is it me, or iOS autocorrect has been getting worse and worse for a while now? 🙄🤬

  16. The most annoying thing about auto-correct is how it removes the spaces whenever I use the — symbol. The second most annoying thing is that I’ve been using — (or, if I’m feeling lazy, the - symbol) for years, but now every stupid bot uses them religiously.

The difference between me and auto-correct — and every dumb bot out there — is that I was taught to always include a space around that symbol, while auto-correct now wants to tell me how “wrong” I am.

My running joke now is that I don’t write like AI, rather AI rewrites like me, but poorly.

Speaking of proper language skills, I also dislike how “auto correct” became “auto-correct” and then “autocorrect.” I hate how people always want to compound words. It’s like humanity has a grudge against the space bar. 🙃

  17. I'm trying to type the word `part.revision` in our wiki because this is a database field I'm trying to document.

It keeps #autocorrect ing this to `part. Revision` because it thinks I'm actually starting a new sentence and am too stupid to add the space and capitalize the first word.

  18. I hate the way #autocorrect manages to choose the wrong word.

The price of intelligibility is consonant vigilante.

  20. Sigh. After all these years, Apple’s autocorrect still does this. Yet, I’ve never ever used the word in any of my typing or work … I guess it’s trying to tell me something.

  21. My wish list for #wwdc this year:

    1) Revert #LiquidGlass, it's a cool idea but it's just unusable.
    2) Fix #autocorrect... seriously. I spend way too long fixing text on my devices and for the love of God stop retroactively changing words after I've typed the next one.
    3) Make #Siri useful again... actually useful. She's currently an egg timer and her other uses could be replaced by NFC tags / smart button. It's embarrassing.
    4) Stop with #AppleIntelligence. Just, stop.

    5) Fix end user prompts. Just stop popping up dialogs asking me to accept this, or elevate that. It's so tiring and just trains users to click the accept button for everything ... have you guys even watched your own adverts mocking Windows #UAC??
    6) Relocate to Ireland. US #CloudAct means iCloud is untrustworthy, I'll be migrating away and recommending others do the same.
    7) Keep going with Apple Silicon, your hardware is killing it.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Makes it really annoying, when I want to change e.g. my search phrase slightly, or fix a spelling mistake, as it screws up the field 😑

Opened an issue, but I don't expect to see a fix soon 🫠
In the meantime I'll try keeping the suggestions off, but this also means no spell-checking 🥲

  29. Just had the interesting thought occur to me that I'd like #autocorrect in my passwords and that's not actually insane?

I use #passphrases everywhere and I think everyone should.

Sometimes however, I typo somewhere while typing the dozens of characters; requiring me to type the entire thing again.

However, words are the source of entropy in my passphrases, not their characters.

Therefore, correcting any word that is not on the word list to the closest word that is would not diminish entropy.

  33. Why is autocorrect so fucking extra useless now?
I type "I" and "d" followed by "never" and the suggestions are "ID "Is" and emojis...
