An FB post from my fellow community members and relatives in Attawapiskat who attended the announcement of Bill 5 at the Ont Legislature. Chief Sylvia Metatawabin-Koostachin and others voiced their concerns and were fined and escorted away. There are many Indigenous leaders who are protesting this and will not stop because there is too much at stake for our people.

My most recent column is all about our First Nation leadership fighting back on Bill 5, a bill that aims to fast track resource development without properly consulting or including First Nations.

My latest column is about the annual spring goose hunt, which everyone is taking part in on the James Bay coast right now.
Pictured is my late Mooshoom (grandfather) Xavier Paulmartin-Rose, who was a traditional hunter/trapper from the James Bay coast. #atttawapiskat #nishnawbe #indigenous #mushkegowukhttps://www.wawataynews.ca/blogs-columns/niska-tah-mah-nah-oon-goose-hunt

A short video of Attawapiskat celebrating the passing of prominent Elder Ignace Koostachin this past week. This is a long procession of vehicles that brought him back to his home over the winter ice road from Timmins, to Moosonee and then to Attawapiskat. Family and friends from every community on the coast were able to meet the family as they travelled north. The original video is by community member Willie Lazarus on FB. #atttawapiskat #mushkegowuk #nishnawbe #indigenous

I dedicated my latest column to the passing of two great men that I looked up. John Mercier, a French Canadian from Timmins who was a great friend and Ignace Koostachin, a close relative I looked up in my community of Attawapiskat #atttawapiskat #mushkegowuk #nishnawbe #nishnawbeaski #indigenous
