  1. Boy oh boy, that has an odor! It’s complex. Nuanced. Foul. Imagine the concept of unwashed armpits trying its hardest to smell floral. If my memory serves me, I got this as a corm about three years ago. This is the first flower. 😍😍🤢😍

  4. Here's the Dracunculus vulgaris in bloom. Like I said in the OP, the pollinators are flies, so it attracts flies by smelling like the nastiest roadkill you can imagine.
They have naturalized at my place.

  5. Spring is on the way which means my #corms will be waking up soon! I'm gonna need to get these guys planted up before long.

    Left to right:
#Typhonium venosum "Indian Giant", #Arisaema consanguineum, Typhonium venosum (typical), #Taccarum weddellianum, #Amorphophallus konjac, & Arisaema candidissima

    I'll also be picking up
#Dracunculus vulgaris from one of my plant swapping buddies today!

  6. I went to the grocery store to get some boring stuff and came home with this beauty. I think it's a Monstera Thai Constellation. I didn't really need more plants but couldn't resist. This used to cost a lot more than $20 in my neck of woods.

  7. A fascinating look at aroids (Araceae), plants that produce heat. How much heat? The Brazilian plant Philodendron bipinnatifidum actually burns fat to produce temperatures up to 115 °F (46 °C) for two nights and "consumes oxygen at a rate comparable to that of a flying hummingbird".

  8. All but one of my #aroid #corms are emerging from their winter rest. Dracunculus vulgaris was the first out of the gate but Taccarum weddellianum (pictured), Typhonium venosum (typical form and 'Indian Giant'), and Amorphophallus konjac are all well on their way. Arisaema candidissima is just peaking through. Arisaema consanguineum is the hold out but I suspect it will get started on spring growth soon.

  15. @plants just so dang chuffed about this leaf; gearing up for a big one friends. This is a monstera deliciosa and each new leaf pops out of the stem of a matured leaf. I'm really excited about it in particular because they tend to grow in small if their lighting isn't adequate so I know it's in a good state right now #aroideae #aroid #monstera
