  1. My #Hoya cinnamomifolia is blooming! This is one of my oldest #hoyas and it rarely #flowers for me. I don't think it is a difficult #plant, I just think I'm neglectful.

  3. My #Dendrobium trantuanii is blooming for me for the first time.

I can only assume the big, fuzzy 'rump' on the column looks irresistible to horny bees in the plant's native area in Vietnam.

  4. Surprise #plants! I found these little #caudiciform seedlings in 2 separate pots on 2 different shelves. I think they might be Dermatobotrys saundersii; it is forever flowering & setting fruit plus is on the shelf over the 2 where these were found. There are a lot of cucurbits & euphorbias on nearby shelves so it could easily be one of those, too. I love the little #caudices they are already forming!

  5. I overwinter some of my outdoor plants in my messy garage. There's about a week left before I can safely move them outside. My #Amorphophallus konjac decided to #flower so now my messy garage smells like hot, bloated roadkill.

  6. I'll be flying back home later today. I'm really looking forward to checking on my @[email protected]. These are a few photos I took before leaving that show some of the leaves on my #Drosera regia.

  7. I took these photos of my #Nesocodon mauritianus Sunday morning before I left for a week. I was so afraid I was going to miss it blooming so I was really happy it came through in time.

  8. I know I post a lot of photos of @[email protected] where I say something like "Okay, I know this doesn't look like much but I'm super excited!"

This is one of those times.

    Bee
#orchids, genus #Ophrys, aren't that common in cultivation where I live so I'm really proud that one of mine, Ophrys cerastes, has emerged from dormancy.

  12. I know it doesn't look like much but, nonetheless, I cannot begin to express how excited I am about the bud I just found on my Nesocodon mauritianus!

  13. People are always buying Stephanie erecta but #Stephania cepharantha is where it's at! Look at all the cuteness! I love this #plant so much. I'm thinking about adding another #trellis on top of its current trellis but that'd make it too tall for the space I can spare for it.

  14. My friends and family sometimes make fun of me for taking care of "dead sticks" but some of those "dead sticks" actually did something this year!

  15. HECK YEAH!

I got an restock alert for Begonia luxurians from Steve's Leaves and managed to buy one before they sold out again!

  16. I'm trying to free up some space in my #plant collection so I offered 8 plants up on a local Facebook group for trading and giving away plants.

I've also made the final call on 3 plants that I was hoping would somehow pull through but that've clearly given up.

Anyway, I totally don't feel bad for buying 3 new
    #plants today.

  17. Sweet! Mistake in my favor! Plant shop sent me MY order... and someone else's. I reached out and offered to send it to the correct customer or back to them. They thanked me for offering but said to keep it. Now I have TWO beautiful Euphorbia stellatas.

  18. My neglected #Stapeliad collection got some much needed TLC today.

    I treated all the salvageable
#plants for the unseen mealybug infestation that'd gone unchecked for too long.

I culled those that were too far gone (~1/3
    💔).

I replaced all their tags with clear, uniform, correct labels. Some had previously been labeled in "permanent" marker plus most had mismatching labels from various vendors, a few of which used outdated names.

  19. I've been trying to find a Brachystelma barberiae to add to my collection of caudiciforms for years. I'm broke as crap right now and trying to preserve any capital/credit I have for further pandemic hardships.

But I'm also impulsive and greedy so I bought this little one as soon as I received the notification email. At least it was the smallest/cheapest one they had, right?

  20. I found this patch of Trifolium repens with red midribs on a gentle hillside that was mostly covered with the more typical form.

  21. Okay... so I failed at my challenge of not buying plants for a month on this, the 9th day.

In my defense, 9 days is pretty good AND it is a plant that is almost never offered for sale.

Not gonna beat myself up about it as long as I'm good for the rest of the month and maybe a little of the next one.

  22. Sorry for the crappy pic but... I found one of my top wishlist #plants Monday!

I had some free time while I was out before work so I swung by one of my favorite little nurseries just to look around & waste some time. Then I saw it: a good-sized Natal Mahogany! And for about half of what I saw it going for while traveling a few months ago.

Turns out, they asked a supplier about getting some in after I'd inquired & it was the only one they ordered.

  23. Heck friggin' yeah!! I finally found a #Hoya mitrata for sale in my country! (International orders have resulted in receiving a dead one & another was seized by customs for a fungus.)

As a super awesome bonus, I also asked if they had any Hoya sigillatis and they did so I bought a cutting!

I'm broke but stoked. I'm also really grateful I don't celebrate any upcoming major gift giving holidays & don't have kids so I can splurge on myself.

  24. Hopefully this #Schlumbergera truncata 'Crimson Flame' will be the one that breaks the curse and survives instead of becoming another victim of my inability to keep these doggone things alive.

  25. Quick guide to differentiating between #Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum and T. xanadu (both formerly #Philodendron):

    1. bipinnatifidum has wavier leaf edges than xanadu's flatter ones
    2. xanadu always has a groove along the top of the petiole ("C" shaped cross section) where bipinnatifidum is usually flat ("D" shaped cross section)
    3. bipinnatifidum has a green to white spadix and xanadu's is red to purple

Hope that helps someone somewhere someday!

  26. I took my first ever trip to New Jersey last week to meet more of my boyfriend's family and friends and to attend a wedding.

On our last day there, THREE different family members each gave me a section of a plant they grow: Philodendron bipinnatifidum from his sister, Opuntia humifusa from his uncle, and Tradescantia zebrina from his cousin.

    Talk about feeling welcomed!

With their help, my plant collection has finally exceeded 400.

  27. I love it when Summer Rayne Oakes covers a cute #plant that I already have so I don't have to go buy it.

I've never heard Aeschynanthus longicaulis called "zebra basket vine", though - I'm only familiar with it as "black pagoda lipstick plant".

    Front left: Begonia pavonina
    Right: Cissus discolor 'Silver Form'

  29. Anyone have any experience growing Camellia sinensis (tea #plant)? I'm particularly interested in #advice for growing indoors under a grow light and in passive hydroponics but any tips are great! Think it's okay to grow in range of cats or do I need to keep it out of reach? I don't see it on the ASPCA's toxic plant list though they list Camellia japonica as non-toxic.

  34. I realized today that I have, and I'm not exaggerating, HUNDREDS of liters of #LECA in my home. Nearly every #plant I grow is in a passive #hydroponics setup.
