It’s my favorite time of year for #Minnesota wildflowers! Each spring, a swarm of Jack-in-the-pulpits pop up amongst the Virginia Waterleaf, Bloodroot, Canadian Wild Ginger, and other flora that inhabit our local moist woodland floors. By the end of the season, these Jack-in-the-pulpits will have bright red berries.

Happy Tuesday.
I came across this bright green #monster in the garden with hundreds of eyes staring back at me.

It's actually the fruiting seed pods of #Arisaema taiwanense.

I'm hoping that the green fruits will ripen and turn yellow or red so I can harvest these quite rare seeds.

#Arisaema candidissimum, "Whitest Arum". It doesn't really have a standard English name (something something cobra-lily or jack-in-the-pulpit) but in Chinese it's 白苞南星 "White-bracted Southern Star".

#Arisaema candidissimum. A friend meant to pick me a flower to photograph and instead the whole plant came out of the ground! I potted it up and it came back for three years but last year we had a late hard frost that killed off a lot of plants, this one among them.

On black, emerging from a sheath, one three-part dark green leaf, and one flower, spathe green on the outside and pink inside, with white striations and green spadix.

Alt: black BG, emerging from a sheath two wrinkled curly leaves still furled, like two arms on either side of the rising spathe; you can just barely see the white spadix inside. The whole a mixture of striped and dotted greens, silver, rusty red and deep maroon. A few drops of rain hanging on.

Spring is on the way which means my #corms will be waking up soon! I'm gonna need to get these guys planted up before long.
