"I Get Around" is a song by American rock band #theBeachBoys and the opening track from their 1964 album #AllSummerLong. Written by #BrianWilson and #MikeLove, the autobiographical lyrics describe the group's reaction to their newfound fame and success, as well as their restlessness concerning the #statusQuo, and their desire to find new places "where the kids are hip". It was released as a single in May 1964, with the B-side "#DontWorryBaby".

It was the first LP the group recorded post British Invasion, and the last where their music reveled in California beach culture until the 1968 single "Do It Again". Only one song explicitly references surfing: "Don't Back Down"; there are no hot rod songs at all for the first time, "Little Honda" is about a motorcycle.
Released this day in 1964.

Bin gespannt.

Quilt #2 for #AllSummerLong(Arm) on the contraption. I’m trying things slightly differently this year - going to quilt a bunch before breaking for binding. I keep trying, but I really haven’t found a method I’m comfortable with to whittle down the pile of finished tops without wishing I was piecing new ones instead
I don’t know, that may not make sense. I’m extra tired today

Two-fer for #MyCreativeYear since yesterday was a holiday
Day 6-7 / June-July
Starting this month and continuing #AllSummerLong(Arm) I was focused on longarm quilting a bunch of quilts in one fell swoop…

With this quilt I've reached my #AllSummerLong(Arm) goal - 9 UFOs quilted and bound before Labor Day

HEXIE CHROMATIC
Completed: August 2023
Design: Large Hexies
Quilting: Custom E2E
Size: 72" x 73"Thought about attempting a bonus quilt finish before August ends, but I'm going to be happy with what I've accomplished and give myself a few days of rest before I start piecing new tops again

HOARDING FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Completed: August 2023
Design: Apples & Beavers Dragon Dreams
Quilting: Chevron
Size: 82.5" x 82.5"Now that I'm no longer a custom quilting business I can make all the adorable patterns from other quilters I want (tho I still can't help putting my own stamp on any design 😉)
This is quilt #8 towards my #AllSummerLong(Arm) goal

Chevron quilting was a very good choice

Been fiddling around with ideas for how to quilt my latest #AllSummerLong(Arm) project
I considered a spool-themed panto and dragon scales done with rulers, but the number of problems with my last quilt has me spooked, so it looks like this one is going to be an easy edge-to-edge chevron
Wish I was a bit more adventurous with my #Quilting, but done is better than fancy I guess
-
I thought quilt #7 would finish quick because it is on the smaller side, but a LOT of longarm issues (and some ennui) pushed this one to 10 days. Still, it's Aug 1 and I've got a whole month more of #AllSummerLong(Arm) to go to meet my goal

SCRAPPY NAP
Completed: July 2023
Design: Improv Letters
Quilting: Triangle Tangle pantograph
Size: 56" x 67"This quilt was inspired by a free printable I saw on Pinterest, but why print when you can sew?

Wavy border quilt update — I was able to save it! Essentially, I removed the wavy borders and used QAYG to sew them back in place. They ended up much flatter and I was then able to finish the border quilting on my regular sewing machine
WHEW!
Still have I idea what caused it. Probably won’t be donate-able but it is useable at least
-
I do not know what went so horribly wrong with the quilting on this quilt, but the wavy borders are so bad I’m going to have to take it off the long arm and try to fix them by hand
Look at that gap! It’s on both sides and I’ve never had anything like this happen before 🤷♀️
I’m really bummed because this is a design I liked a lot and hoped to donate the finished quilt

Quilting: Stipple
Size: 77" x 98"Plan to use this quilt as a curtain for our sliding glass door during the winter months

My made-up rules to #AllSummerLong(Arm) include “no piecing” while I focus on quilting as many quilts tops as possible. But I’m letting the occasional shopping my stash or doodling around with designs slip thru (can’t run the machine 24/7!)
Anyways, here’s a quick #quilt sketch I did last night that could be lots of fun to make
-
Little 😬 to start #AllSummerLong(Arm) #6 now that the thread has arrived — my focus has been ruler-based quilting for so long that I’m worried my free motion skills have atrophied. Fingers crossed my ability to stipple quilt comes back quickly!

HEARTZ UNLEASHED
Completed: July 2023
Design: Buggy Barn Heart Crazies
Quilting: Triangle Tangle Pantograph
Size: 72" x 88"This one's a wedding gift for a nibling who got engaged over the December holidays -- it's the first time I've gotten a wedding quilt done before the Save the Date card even arrived 😂
-
I put quilt #6 on for #AllSummerLong(Arm) but don’t have the thread I need. Should have checked first dammit 😭
Looks like I’ll be binding #4 and #5 while I wait for the new colors to arrive
If it doesn’t take too long, I’m still on track for 9-12 finishes before Labor Day 🤞🏻
-
After removing stitches from three different attempts to quilt this, the fourth time seems to be a winner — relieved to finally be making some progress
-
This #AllSummerLong(Arm) finish I actually quilted on my regular sewing machine, but I'm counting it as done ✅✅✅
It's a baby quilt + coordinating tooth fairy pillow. The family likes to play games together, so this oversized checkerboard should (eventually) give the new tot lots of bonding time with mom, dad and sibs
AXOLOTL GAMES TO WIN
Completed: June 2023
Design: Checkerboard
Quilting: Crosshatch Grid/Piano Keys
Size: 40" x 40" (14" x 14" pillow) -
Another #AllSummerLong(Arm) finish
This is the last of 16 special quilts I've made since 2004, one for each of our niblings, based on an individual experience that reminds me of them -- I don't know if I'm happy or sad to be done with them all
HIDDEN TREASURE
Completed: June 2023
Design: Glam Clam by Latifa Saafir
Quilting: Custom
Size: 60" x 72" -
I do not like piecing quilt backs

Day 10 of #AllSummerLong(Arm) and quilt #2 is ready to remove. Woot woot!
For those who like the creative details, I used water soluble thread to baste a few of these clamshells while I waiting for color matching thread to arrive. It has left a bit of a sticky residue, so though I usually don’t, I think I’ll be washing this quilt before sending it on to my niece. Here’s hoping for a nice antiquing.
Tonight I begin burying (A LOT OF) threads 🪡
-
Turns out, quilting clamshell blocks is even harder than sewing the clamshell curves. Bubbles and ripples and sooooo much stretching. Still a few rows to go, but I’m almost afraid to take this one off the longarm 😳
#AllSummerLong(Arm) Day 7
-
In general, we quilters are masochists. After all, we cut up big pieces of fabric into little pieces and sew the little pieces back together to get another big piece.
But I’m taking it to the next level with this quilt — matching thread to 11 different clam colors and using 4 different stitch patterns (horizontal lines, vertical lines, echo curves and small scallops) At the very least I’ll be burying 144 thread stop/starts!
My niece better appreciate all this a LOT

Day 4, Quilt 2 of #AllSummerLong(Arm)
I doubt I’ll be keeping up this 1 quilt every 72 hrs pace, but it does feel good to have a second quilt on the longarm. Now if I only knew how I was going to quilt this one 🤨

#AllSummerLong(Arm) Day 3
My dearest Martha —
Although the current longarm #quilting offensive was planned months in advance, we find ourselves in dire need of supplies at a critical moment. While a bolt of batting was fortunately secured, we run desperately short of needles, thread, pattern paper, masking tape and coordinating materiel for binding. I fear for our success at this enterprise unless credit is arranged in short order from a nearby fabric merchandiser.
Best,
I.Q. -
#AllSummerLong(Arm) Day 2
I chose the Shazam pantograph because I really wanted the quilting to be bold and in your face on this quilt. That’s also why I went with yellow thread - it’s visible on the navy in a very compelling way but shouldn’t overpower the message of the pieced letters either
-
Zero ☀️ today, so it doesn’t seem very summery, but it is June 1 which means #AllSummerLong(Arm) has begun
My hope is to longarm quilt at least 9 UFO tops before the end of August - it feels like too many and too few at the same time
