A local we ask, where's your fishing permit.
A fishing boat crew we ask, where's your work permit.
A trawler flotilla? International waters, can't do nothing, have a good day.

We may be seeing the peak of the AI #bubble because I am seeing some explosive posting on #StinkedIn which seem to be trying to evade addressing the obvious #AIGrift of company A investing in Company B which then buys AI Stuff from Company A and both then post #numbergoesup quarterly reports even tho no end to #enshitification in sight.

The Neverending Story of AI and HIL. Sorry to appear so negative about AI (the inevitable, inescapable future of technological society) but it really is a cesspit of deceit and grifting.

“AI” automated PR reviews mostly useless junk
"Add in the financial costs of using and running these tools, as well as the energy they consume, and the conclusion is clear. (...) We’re several years into the “AI” hype, and I still have seen no evidence it’s not a dead end and a massive con."

I can decide if I should waste a bunch of AI clock cycles on pointless gibberish, or if that will just help drive up engagement numbers and make it easier to convince investors to keep throwing money at this ponzi scheme 🤔

.> Comedian and author Sarah Silverman, as well as authors Christopher Golden and Richard Kadrey — are suing OpenAI and Meta each in a US District Court over dual claims of copyright infringement...
.> Silverman, an Emmy-winning performer and former cast member on "Saturday Night Live," is the latest content creator to file a lawsuit over so-called large language models (LLM), which underpin burgeoning "generative" AI apps such as ChatGPT. LLMs develop their functionality by "training" on vast amounts of written and other content, including material created by professional and amateur writers.
.> Silverman's lawyers say training AI by having it process others' intellectual property, including copyrighted material like books, amounts to "grift."
.> ... Silverman accused OpenAI — which created ChatGPT — and Facebook owner Meta of copying her work "without consent, without credit and without compensation." The plaintiffs are seeking injunctions to stop OpenAI and Meta from using the authors' works, as well as monetary damages.
.> ... It produces accurate summaries as well as passages lifted verbatim from the works, but doesn't include the copyright information that is customarily printed in these and other books — evidence that it was fed a complete copy of the work, according to the complaint.
.> OpenAI and Meta both trained their respective LLMs in part on "shadow libraries" — repositories of vast amounts of pirated books that are "flagrantly illegal," according to the plaintiffs' lawyers. Books provide a particularly valuable training material for generative AI tools because they "offer the best examples of high-quality longform writing," according to the complaint, citing internal research from #OpenAI.

"...he envisions a future where AI could compress 100 years of medical progress into a decade, cure mental illnesses like PTSD and depression, upload your mind to the cloud, and alleviate poverty."
Uh huh... sure.
"At the same time, it’s reported that Anthropic is hoping to raise fresh funds at a $40 billion valuation."
Yep, there it is.

How much energy does each run of a trillion-parameter model consume? Generating ONE image requires as much energy as charging a modern smartphone.
This short-sighted obsession with the shiny must stop if we are to survive as a planet.

You probably know what SQL injections are - they're a type of cyber attack. Presenting, "prompt injection attacks (link below). This is insane.
I'm increasingly convinced that the short-term advantage gained by white collar workers (longer term, they are making their own jobs redundant) is not worth the exponential increase in attack surface that LLMs bring. We need to drop them, like hot potatoes.

We desperately need dumb shit. All this "smart"/SIM -driven tech is fast turning into an excuse to appropriate more data from lazy and/or blinded-by-the-bling users.
No doubt, this sort of engineering can be turned into a promising tool for some tasks, but not in the current economic and political framing. We need more/better laws, and states with some spine.
