If you are on Debian 13 and want to use dropbox as a daemon/desktop application, I have found it impossible to use their new software (.debs created for Debian). I also think it is mining your browser data for AI analytics.
Go with the nautilus-dropbox package in the stable branch.
And start looking for an alternative. They are coming after your OS and browser. Shameful.

Dropbox is showing some very suspicious behaviour on Debian 13 LXQt. It tries to 'connect' by forcing a browser window to open. After I do log in, it doesn't work.
The commandline leaks errors. After logging in through one browser, it still generates command line output when I browse through a different one.
And there are errors about coveoua. Does anyone know what coveoua is ? Some sort of an AI analytics company ?

I have recently been looking at task and project management software for 1-2 person teams, and am horrified by what is out there. Almost all interesting products are on subscription and offer no possibility of exporting data in a user-friendly format. The thought of having all my organisation and project details at the mercy of a landlord who can modify the product or the rent at any point and offers no safe off-ramp is insane.

Question: Suppose you have won the lottery and you are a landlord in 2025. You are probably also very rich, and for some unfathomable reason you decide you don't need the money from the rent to survive. You decide to rent out the house/apartment at a nominal rate. Interesting. So zoom held my login hostage until I updated the software to whatever idiotic form it has morphed into now. I was late for the meeting, and zoom started showing an unasked for AI, UI-element that I can't get rid of. Data-theft by holding your communication hostage.
Is there a way around this situation? Some modded version of the software?
