The #AI #grift is really no different from the scams of medieval alchemists with wealthy patrons. "I'm this close to turning pig shite into gold, m'lord! If I could have but a hundred more guineas I will surely reach the pinnacle of my quest!"
All the game is doing is burning ever larger piles of cash to justify asking for more cash to burn. There is no business model that makes sense.
Trillions of dollars that could instead go to actual useful and beneficial uses: Feed the starving. Shelter the homeless. Resettle the refugees of wars and climate disasters. Build resilient and future-proof infrastructure. Turbocharge the transition to renewables. Rewild ecosystems. Accelerate carbon removal (ask me how).
Instead, we have to sit and watch the most depressing and pointless billionaire circle jerk and wait for the whole thing to blow up.
