  8. Duluth - Canal Park On Ricoh GRIIIx

Were heading up north last weekend and stopped in Duluth to get out of the car and walk around the canal/harbor for a little bit. We got there just in time to see the largest ship on the Great Lakes pass under the lift bridge into the harbor. “There’s something pretty fitting about photographing the night sky from a spot where lightning struck the rock long ago. And on this night, it felt like everything was lining up just right—the textured rock in the foreground, Lake Superior stretching out toward the horizon, the distant lights along the North Shore, and the Milky Way rising overhead.” - Hayes Scriven

  12. Lake Superior gave me one last perfect scene before I head home to Virginia tomorrow. The Marquette shoreline, the clear water, and those magnificent clouds — I’m going to miss views like this.

  13. Former Great Lakes fleetmates; apparently,
I missed the party on the Irvin last night here in Duluth as the John G. Munson arrived yesterday with limestone while museum ship William A. Irvin prepared to host a Thursday evening music concert on its deck, 6 August, 2026. Photo by David Schauer, who had to have his drone operating. Or actually had someone else get this one for him.

  21. #IndigenousGardens in #Ontario

" #Indigenous gardens and other special places are designed for people to gather, learn, heal, reflect and celebrate the diverse and rich #FirstNations, #Inuit and #Métis cultures.

"From the banks of the St. Marys River in #SaultSainteMarie and #LakeSuperior in #ThunderBay to downtown #Toronto, learn about the important role of Indigenous gardens in honouring #IndigenousCulture and knowledge in Ontario.

"Traditional plants, including the four sacred medicines — #sage, #tobacco, #cedar and #sweetgrass — are often integral to Indigenous gardens.

    - Sage is often used in smudging, where the smoke is washed over participants to cleanse away negative energy.
    - Cedar is a protective medicine that can be used as cedar tea, cedar baths or hung in the home to guard against bad elements.
    - Sweetgrass is a kindness medicine. It reminds us to be good to others, the world and ourselves.
    - Tobacco is a relationship medicine offered to start things: before a harvest, before a hunt, before asking for assistance from an Elder or to start the day. It opens up communication and ushers in good energy.

"Learn more about Indigenous gardens in Ontario and their significance. This is a short list of the many Indigenous gardens across the province. Please respect these Indigenous spaces, as not all gardens are open to the public."
