Can’t remember if I shared this here before or not, but here it is again. I was at Presque Isle Park in Marquette, Michigan on Lake Superior a couple months ago. The tiny leaves of the quaking aspens caught my eye and held my attention. I sat at a picnic table nearby for a long time, just listening to the water and the leaves fluttering in the breeze. It was the peace my heart and soul needed.

As an aside, the breakwall light is in the background. As teenagers, we’d walk out to it—first on easy cement, then jumping between large rocks with gaps between them. Once, my cousin dropped his camera into a gap. Some guys stopped to help, lying on the rocks and reaching down until one came up with a camera, his arm scratched and bleeding. Except—it wasn’t my cousin’s! It was a similar cheap camera, rusty and beat up from being down there who knows how long. OMG, what were the odds?

NORTHLAND FORECAST FOR AUGUST 24, 2026:

A high-pressure system keeps the #Northland mostly #clear of #clouds Sunday night. A bit of #fog is possible with low #temperatures in the 40s and 50s.

Monday will see some #clouds at times, but we remain #dry and comfortable. A light lake #breeze will keep those next to #LakeSuperior in the upper 60s and low 70s for highs, with upper 70s farther inland.

I missed the party on the Irvin last night here in Duluth as the John G. Munson arrived yesterday with limestone while museum ship William A. "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is a 1976 #hitSong written, composed and performed by the Canadian singer-songwriter #GordonLightfoot to memorialize the sinking of the bulk carrier SS #EdmundFitzgerald in #LakeSuperior on November 10, 1975. Lightfoot considered this song to be his finest work. Appearing originally on his 1976 album #SummertimeDream, Lightfoot re-recorded the song in 1988 for the compilation album #GordsGoldVol2.
