An exchange here on Mastodon last month made me think about the fact that so many of us (including me) are walking around with stories inside our heads from the early days of networking. Some of it is early #InternetHistory ... some of it is from times before the #Internet.
I wrote a post about that today:

I was fascinated to read "The Origins of Python" by Professor Lambert Merteens that dove into the programming languages like ABC, SETL, and TELCOMP that set the stage for what Guido van Rossum would later do with Python.

Tip for new Mastodon users - if you find your timelines having many posts in languages you can't understand, there's a simple way to change that. In the web view (vs mobile app), go into Preferences -> Other and scroll down to "Filter languages". Check the ones you know and save changes. Now you will only see posts that indicate they are in those languages.

I wrote a piece today about why I'm excited to see organizations such as Mozilla and ACM launching Mastodon / Fediverse servers - and also some of the challenges they will face.
If Mastodon is to grow to include many more people coming from birdsite and from other services, we'll continue to need MORE instances/servers.

For example, I pretty much never look at my Local or Federated timelines anymore. My Home timeline is all I need.

Twitter is relaunching "Twitter Blue" on Monday where you can pay $8 (or $11 on IOS) to get a blue checkmark, editing, longer videos... and prioritization of your tweets.
They also said they will be launching Gold checkmarks for businesses and gray checkmarks for government accounts in the next week.

For those of us who like live audio conversations and events, TwitterSpaces has many outstanding features. I've become a huge fan.
And while Spaces might survive and continue in "Twitter 2.0", they might not.
What other options are out there?

@justinmwhitaker The nice thing about Mastodon is that it also has RSS feeds, though.
I'm a week in to what I hope will be a 100 day streak on my blog. I'm encouraging others to pick it up too. #100DaysOfBlogging
