Well, I wanted to gross at least $250 today and I just made my first sale — for $248! Almost there. 😊

Two shots of my booth. I'm in the process of changing the hand lettering on my pendant displays to magnetic labels. I think this will keep me busy all day. No sales yet. Breakfast crowd is pretty much gone; let's see if I do better for lunch.

Still debating on whether I should bring the bracelet displays. I might bring one.🤔
-
It took me 15 minutes to load the car for this show. Two tables, two display boxes, my table covers, my necklace displays, my sell box (with packaging, etc.), my inventory (which fits in a single rolling bag), and a handtruck.

Many of my books are included in the #Anthropic piracy settlement; I'm still waiting to see my money. I'm also working with an organization called Claims Hero, which was recently in the news for a case against Meta. They work on cases with several authors at once and are looking for additional authors to represent.
If you think your books may have been used by Meta to train their #AI, here's a referral link to learn more: https://claimshero.com/ai-book-pirating?ref=mzhmyjf It's free. #books #writing #copyright

I usually load my car the day before a show so it's pretty much ready to go in the morning. I didn't do that yesterday. But this venue is more casual than most and has no official start time. I figured I'd get there at around 9 AM and set up. It's only a half an hour from my house so I have plenty of time. (1/2)

I still haven't decided which tables I'm going to bring. I get 8' x 5' of space and there is space between each vendor. Three 2' x 4' tables would give me a U shape. One 2' x 4' table plus one 2.5' x 6' table would give me an L shape. It all comes down to whether I want to deal with 2 tables or 3. 🤔 I'm leaning towards 2 for this first day. Keep it simple. (2/2)

What I'm looking forward to most is being able to get everything for my "booth" onto a single dolly, roll it inside from my car, and set up in less than a half hour. No competing with other vendors for convenient parking, no unwieldy tent, no 40 pound weights on each leg of the tent, and only half the number of displays. But what's best of all is that this is a local venue so I can really push my jewelry making classes. (5/5)

Up very early this morning. The short days are already getting to me.
Today I return to Pybus Market, an indoor venue with shops and restaurants that rents out table space to artists and makers. I signed up too late to get any Saturday dates for the rest of the season, but I do have two Fridays and a bunch of Sundays coming up. Table space is remarkably affordable and there is a jury process. (1/5)

I made my first jewelry sale at Pybus in 2018. Back then, I was doing much simpler work and the venue worked well for me. But things change and I started doing bigger, better shows, including 3-day shows in the tourist town of Leavenworth, WA. I've had good shows and bad shows but they all have one thing in common: they are a shit ton of work to set up, man the booth, and then tear down. (2/5)

I was a lazy bones this year and only did two multiday shows and a short event. That 3-hour, single table event showed me that I can sell more per hour with less effort than I can at a full-blown weekend-long event. The math is easy: spend three hours and sell $400 worth of merchandise or spend 40 hours and sell $2000 worth of merchandise. Which do you think is a better use of my time? (3/5)

At one of the shows, I ran into a jewelry artist friend who still sells at Pybus. She encouraged me to come back. I checked it out and signed up again. Today will be my first day back. I don't have very high expectations, but it will get me out of the house. I'll spend my booth sitting time reworking my displays. (4/5)

This should be* a wake up call to anyone using Facebook to promote their business. It's kind of difficult to do that if you can't link to your website or online shop.
* I say "should be" because anyone with a brain would realize that social media mega sites like Facebook should not be relied upon to fully support their business. But there seem to be a lot of people on Facebook with no brain. #DeleteFacebook

Got the new backdrop set up in my jewelry photo booth and fiddled around with the lights a bit. The result is usable. I think that if I put the camera on a tripod I might be able to get consistent shots. I'm going to re-shoot every item so I can finally update my online shop. #photography #jewelry

Lunch consumed. I'm wondering if I can take a 90 minute nap or if just when I get into a good solid sleep, the UPS truck I'm expecting arrives and the dogs bark their little brains out at it, thus waking me up.🤔

Knowing that my truck is going to take about 25 gallons of diesel before I return to Snohomish to pick up my boat and bring it home, I'm doing all of my grocery shopping at Fred Meyer tomorrow with 4X fuel points on my purchases. If I spend $250 on groceries (which I actually don't plan on doing, $150 is more likely) I can get $1 off on fuel when it's time to fill up the truck.

This is the cart I made for the motor two years ago.

Ha! That worked even better than I expected! Scrap wood, scrap wheels, some scrap hardware. The result is a dolly for my RIB that keeps the boat level and lets me roll it anywhere I need to in the garage. This will really come in handy when I clean it in the spring because it won't be on the ground. #DIY #boating #IMakeStuff

Morning pages done. Down into the garage I go.

If this is true, my bargain basement WordPress host is on the ball. #PHP

I'm thinking this applies to #AI.

OK, time to get to work. Morning pages first and then down into the garage to build that dolly for my dinghy. I'm hoping my neighbor is around today to help me get the dinghy out of the truck and onto the dolly. Ditto for the 6 hp outboard motor currently laying inside the dinghy; I already have a dolly for that.

I have to feed my #bees this morning. I need to do it before they wake up and come out of the hive. They are a swarm that took up residence in one of my dead hive boxes from last year. So I guess you can say that they're really not MY bees; I'm their landlord. I haven't opened their box yet; I figure I'll do it in the spring if they survive the winter. I'm increasing their odds of survival by feeding them for as long as I can. #beekeeping

Last year's amaryllis and paper whites sat dormant all summer out of sight behind my TV. I looked at them the other day and it looked like the amaryllis wanted to sprout so I took it its bulb and the bulbs for a bunch of the paper whites, put them in a pot with soil, and started watering them. The amaryllis is going like gangbusters and the paper whites are just starting to sprout. This should be an interesting pot in about a month.

It's getting light out and it looks smoky. Air quality is just under 100. I wonder where the smoke is coming from? I hope I don't smell it.

Canceled Disney Plus again. I'm sorry, but I don't watch $22 worth of any streaming service per month. It looks like I'll just have to wait until there's something there I want to see and then subscribe for a month. I feel the same way about Apple TV+; I just finished Ted Lasso and when I'm done with Slow Horses, I'll cancel that. There are so many better things to do than sit in front of the TV.

Elk are bugling again. Still too dark to see them, but I suspect they're out of sight down in the valley anyway. #RuralLiving

Dear New York Times puzzle ad generator:
Are you showing me ads for Cartier jewelry because you've seen my Apple Card spending this month and mistakenly think I can afford it? Or do you show ads for Cartier jewelry to everyone who plays Wordle and Connections?
Either way, I suspect that Cartier is wasting their advertising dollars.

For those of you interested in the outcome of this. I heard from her again the next day. She was able to get 10 hours of sleep and the hallucinations stopped. When she tried to get an appointment with her primary care physician, he was not available for weeks; the office told her to call an ambulance and go to the ER if she needed help.
And this is one reason why our healthcare system sucks: they prefer sending you to the ER instead of having enough doctors on staff.

Feeling better this morning than yesterday, at least as far as the blahs go. (Finger/hand still hurts.🙄) Today's goals are really yesterday's: build a dolly for my dinghy, empty my truck, and squeeze my truck into the garage. I'm hoping to spend an hour or two in the garden putting the beds to bed. And I'd really like to get into my studio and prep it for real work. I think the key is going to be ibuprofen and hitting the ground running.
