Hi everyone, it's me again. I'm forcing myself to write this by promising myself an entire gummy once I'm done.
I've only been taking half or a quarter at a time, however edibles have never been effective for me unless taken in large quantities (say three or four brownies in one sitting).
But I need a high-value treat to motivate me enough to write this *before* we're two days away from our apartment rent deadline. I know it isn't *much* better than that, but I've been struggling mightily the past few days to resist the siren call of procrastination, as opposed to drafting this personal PBS fund drive.
So.. here we are.
Since we've been doing this for.. well, a couple of years now I know that self-deprecation in begposts seem to have a *negative* effect on donations.
You might be surprised just how much more fucking difficult that is said than done.
Moving on, we've got a couple of big things going on. Rent is probably the top priority, but I've also got to get our 20yo car looked at and hopefully fixed so that it can pass emissions, so my partner can commute to work safely. By the end of the month.
I have no idea how much that would ultimately run; Autozone reported it being the canister purge valve, but our mechanic suggested it could be something more complicated. We're looking at $170 just for the diagnosis.
I've also got to get some work-related items, such as a new safety vest (since I'm allergic to freaking everything so I can't share with my fellow [perfume-dousing] associates), a neck fan because I run super hot all year round, and shirts that are compliant with the upcoming dress code change.
I'm also thinking of getting some safety gear for riding my child scooter to and from the bus stop for work since I fell a third time, fifty feet from the entrance to my work, keeping in tradition with the last two falls being roughly within the final 2% of my commute.
Also my partner has had to cut his hours back at work a little because it was starting to trigger his PTSD. And my hours continue to fluctuate wildly (18, 33, 28, 23 hours the previous and next few weeks, respectively).
So.. I realize this comes on the heels of our last fundraiser a few weeks ago, and the amount is.. staggering. But I'm hoping it's a gross overestimation; because our finances are in a constant state of chaos (we're still struggling to break the habit of daily pay advances, but if there's no food in the fridge or gas in the car..), I can't be completely certain. I've got to get all of our paperwork and finances organized. It's embarrassing.
Besides.. I have no clue what we're ultimately looking at for the car. I'm hoping it's a relatively simple, and hence cheaper fix.
Anyway.. dammit, it is really hard to not be apologetic with this. I know it is a huge ask. Unfortunately I think that's all I can say that isn't overly self-critical.

Punto a favor: el diseño tiene sentido.

Probablemente inundaciones masivas reales en Mesopotamia, como la teoría de la subida del nivel del Mar Negro hace unos 7.000 años.
Para la gente de entonces, eso era literalmente el fin del mundo.Ahora, incluso si aceptamos por un momento que el arca existió, viene la pregunta incómoda de verdad: ¿cómo metes animales ahí dentro sin que se convierta en un caos absoluto?
Porque no hablamos de un par de cabras y gallinas.
Hablamos de depredadores, presas, animales territoriales, especies con dietas muy específicas.
En condiciones normales, es inviable que convivan sin matarse.Las explicaciones que se suelen dar son tres, y ninguna es perfecta.
▪️La primera tira de fe: intervención divina.
Animales tranquilos, sin agresividad, casi en un estado alterado.
Funciona dentro del relato, pero no se puede comprobar fuera de él.
▪️La segunda intenta ser más biológica: algo parecido a hibernación o letargo.
El problema es que la mayoría de especies no puede hacer eso, y menos durante tanto tiempo. ▪️La tercera es logística: compartimentos, separación estricta, organización por niveles.
Eso podría evitar ataques… pero abre otro problema enorme: la alimentación.Porque, ¿Qué comen los carnívoros durante meses?
¿Carne almacenada?
¿En qué condiciones?
¿Cuánta?
¿Cómo se conserva sin pudrirse?

Eso aliviaría el problema, pero no lo elimina del todo.Al final, lo honesto es esto: hay cosas del relato que sorprenden —las proporciones, la coincidencia con otras culturas, ciertos hallazgos curiosos— y hay otras que, si las miras de frente, no encajan con lo que sabemos hoy sobre biología y logística.
No hace falta elegir blanco o negro.
Puede haber un fondo real (una gran catástrofe, recuerdos transmitidos durante generaciones) mezclado con elementos simbólicos o exagerados.
Lo que está claro es que, si el Arca fue real, no fue una operación “normal”.
Y si no lo fue, tampoco es un cuento cualquiera: algo tuvo que pasar para que tantas culturas distintas acabaran contando versiones parecidas.Ahí está lo interesante de verdad… no en demostrar quién tiene razón, sino en entender por qué seguimos haciéndonos la misma pregunta miles de años después 🙂

Well, those are my objections on moral grounds. From a practical point of view, surely it’s obvious that to punish thieves and murderers in precisely the same way is not only absurd but also highly dangerous for the public.
If a thief knows that a conviction for murder will get him into no more trouble than a conviction for theft, he’s naturally impelled to kill the person that he’d otherwise merely have robbed. It’s no worse for him if he’s caught, and it gives him a better chance of not being caught, and of concealing the crime altogether by eliminating the only witness.
So in our efforts to terrorize thieves we’re actually encouraging them to murder innocent people.
