  1. @JoeChip @GhostOnTheHalfShell Congress has the power to claw back the tariffs, but the GOP members are too afraid to be out front. They will wait until their own constituents light pyres to give them courage, but the damage may be done.

The #TrumpDepression will be the GREATEST depression ever!!!!

  3. @JoeChip @davetroy I thought I was the only one thinking about a possible silent revolution. #consumerboycott. I’m glad to hear I’m not alone. The problem is fear. It can be done safely in our homes legally and all we have to do is call in sick and not spend any money. One or two days to financially crush the 1% employers in this country and we the people are 97% labor force. We have the power.

    😆 Unbelievable...
Well, time to force that fascist crap out of the way then. That's when mass comes into the equation, there will never be enough state violence agents to stop that, and it's the perfect opportunity to have some media on people's side this time.

    I mean WTAF?

GOP wreckers don't care about resolving problems. I fail to see any legislative strategy, other than abject surrender, that can forestall (temporarily) this outcome.

The only real option is a stay-at-home #GeneralStrike and #ConsumerBoycott.

If you hit the street, Trump will invoke the insurrection act. But even troops on the street can't force you to go back to work.

    #EconomicDepression

A lesson from the Great Depression of the '30s.

Once depressionary psychology fully takes hold it's impossible to reverse it. Businesses are afraid to hire and spend, new hires become rare. Individuals hoard whatever cash they can acquire. These attitudes become ingrained for a lifetime.

Now imagine this scenario with government supports stripped away.

  8. Exercise your imagination to figure out creative ways to #StarveTheBeast.

And fer crissakes turn off CNN and MSNBC. Develop alternate sources of information. Cultivate reliable independent journalists/outlets. Develop networks of like-minded people.

  9. Remember this is a war against oligarchic fascism. You must starve the corporate beast.

    11) Call in sick whenever you can get away with it.
    12) Don’t do free work. Do only what you're paid to do.
    13) Practice stealth loafing on the job.
    14) Constantly keep your resume in circulation and quit for higher pay if you can.
    15) Consider working fewer hours or quitting altogether. Reducing your ersatz "standard of living" will make you healthier and wiser.

  10. 5) Save if you can. Old-fashioned savings bonds $25
    6) Shop locally owned biz. Keep out of chains.
    7) Shop co-ops and local markets.
    8) Prepare food from staple ingredients.
    9) Keep that car parked! Adopt the WWII principle "is this trip really necessary?"
    10) Grow a garden, even a small one.

  11. CW: A Disquieting Thought Experiment

    A thought experiment:

It's been nearly a century since the beginning of the New Deal. Arguably it was first (and only) major intervention to contain the worst aspects of unrestrained capital. Ultimately it failed. If you could magically return to any time in the past 90 years, could you *realistically* hope to avert fascism?

I've somewhat intrigued by the level of cynicism at work here. Clearly Tapper is no dummy and he's politically savvy. He projects an ironic bemusement that can be entertaining. He's not *obviously* a propagadist in the same way Tucker Carlson is. But there's no way he does not understand the role he plays in the media ecosystem.

  13. By what reasonable journalistic standard does CNN refer to Israeli captives as hostages and Palestinian captives as prisoners? Note the Palestinians being released are women and children (most being held under open-ended administrative detainment by the IDF). CNN is quick to point out that most of the children are teenagers, viewing this as likely to diminish any sympathy felt in the US.

  14. @indianewswatch

    It's even worse:

"Shortly after saying “she’s dead”, Auderer laughs and says, “It’s a regular person," referring to Jaahnavi. He then says, “Just write a check — $11,000, she was 26 anyway, she had limited value.”

The regular person comment is a dead giveaway. Contempt for civilians is an ingrained part of police culture.

"There is a fundamental limit to the body’s coping ability: it is a fixed goalpost.

Research in 2010 demonstrated that a ‘wet-bulb’ temperature of 35 degrees Celsius or higher would make it impossible for humans to exhaust metabolic heat, due to our fixed core body temperature."
