When people insist on calling them "martial arts movies" rather than "kung fu movies," I know exactly what kind of people they are.

Shawscope 2 on the way. Can't wait. I think I'd walk ten miles to have it for the weekend instead of having to wait until Monday, the expected delivery date.

I don't know anything about this luchador, other than that I've seen him in one movie. Médico Asesino. What a bad-ass look, though. Fuck!

Since it appears #Indicator has access to the René Cardona film archives, here are my most wanted Cardona films...
1) Operation 67 (personal favorite Santo film)
2) Doctor of Doom (I bet this one is coming)
3) Wrestling Women vs Killer Robot

Favorite films seen for the first time in 2022
Not the best movie year, imo. I saw many that are making 2022 lists, but few sparked joy. Many felt like work. Glass Onion? I can’t last 15 mins with a movie like that. So I decided to broaden this list. Despite the numbering, no ranking here.
1️⃣ Mad God
2️⃣ Ikarie XB1
3️⃣ A Pistol for Ringo
4️⃣ The Velvet Underground
5️⃣ Excalibur / Perceval
6️⃣ Angst
7️⃣ Gremlins 2
8️⃣ The Big Doll House
9️⃣ The Flower of My Secret
🔟 Pieces -
My favorite TV shows of 2022…
1️⃣ Irma Vep — I loved this. It might strike a lot of people as highly pretentious — something about the way the dialogue sounds coming out of Alicia Vikander’s mouth, especially discussions of the aesthetics of silent films, rings false. And the musical numbers were truly awful.

Not sure how vocal we should be about this — it's likely to get pulled. But for the time being, Roland Kayn's Tektra is on youtube in full. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ct08sRjDEo&t=4954s #RolandKayn #electroacoustic #electronicmusic

Just my personal view: Mission Impossible seems like Trumpian entertainment to me. I would not watch it for anything.

I have to say: though mid-70s luchador movies with other stars are made in a more dynamic, less boxy way, demonstrating — to my eyes — the influence of Italian movies, they are missing the special #Santo charm. In terms of acting and line delivery, there is nothing to separate one luchador from another. But at the risk of getting metaphysical, there’s something about Santo’s shape and the way he runs and the way he holds himself. He’s a unique screen presence.

I'm pretty bummed that #Indicator didn't follow up on its #luchador film releases with more. I really expected them to release at least a few more #Santo films. Did they plan to?
I was hoping for...
Operation 67
Santo and Blue Demon vs the Monsters
The Mummies of Guanajuato
The Treasure of Montezuma...and maybe a few more of the luchadora films.
Too bad. A real disappointment.
