Today arrived the Gameguide for the Atari Jaguar by Karl Morris, published by Zafinn Books. It's well made and a nice read, but at 50 Euros, it's not cheap at all. It's a personal evaluation on the games library, game by game. And probably all reviews are biased by personal preference. And if you want to give them a score, you have to apply some metric. Still, I wish it was a bit more neutral on that side of things, as the preferences of the author might not align with those of the reader.
So do I like it? Yes. Would I recommend it? Sure. If you're into the Jaguar, this is a nice book to put on your coffee table and flip through, or hand to a friend visiting you to give them some insight into Jag gaming. Probably the best part for me personally are the extensive interviews with indie devs in the last part of the book. Even comes with a small history of the console, which reminds me to finish that 3rd editon of Clipped Claws to provide an even more extensive view (shameless self promition).

About a film I love: I thought I'd never see the day: I was searching for any copy of Billy Wilder's "Buddy Buddy" with Lemon and Matthau, originally hoping to find a VHS. Oh, with German dub, mind you. But nothing. The film flopped back in the day, and thus got only a very, very, veeery limited DVD release in German. Just for the new year 2025, I found a sealed copy no less! The quality suggests that the master used here was a VHS, but I do not care at all. Yes, the movie can be found even on the Internet Archive and yes, if you search even harder, you'll find it with German dub online as well. But that quality is even worse, just short of unwatchable - and believe me, I don't say that often. So I'm very happy to have this in a decent quality. Well, who knows that movie anyways? And who enjoys it as much as me? Very small target audience 😅. Anyways. Cheers everyone!

Out of all the #Famicom clone consoles out there, this is the only one I'd love to actually own and take a closer look at: The Zenon 2, allegedly made in South Korea and perhaps from the early 2000s.
The #Atari conaisseurs among you will notice a certain relationship to the Jaguar - but the molds never left the US, where all cases were made, and so it would be nice to see how close they got to the real Jaguar with their guesswork for the case here. Unfortunately, they seem to be incredibly rare - so much so that this is the only photo that I could find of this variation (there seems to be a blue one that also seems to be a bit more crude in design than this). So in case you own one and want to sell it, or would at least feel comfortable taking some good quality pics of it, or you live or know anyone living in South Korea who might be able to help trace this console down, feel free to share, comment or link someone here.

In other news: Oops, I bought another CRT monitor. A green phosphor one from Noris Data. I had one like this in the late 90s as well, got it cheap from a fleamarket. Only got this one here because memberberries and because it was so cheap that the postage is way more expensive than the thing 😂🙈. Will be a new project though, as it seems to not display a picture from what I read. High voltage seems to work though, so probably (hopefully) not a big deal. Unless something broke inside - then I'm screwed 😂, but for the price, I just wanted to take a risk. Will see when it arrives here.

CW: Ramble about Strictly Limited Games
If I may give a recommendation to those of you who might be interested: Do not buy from Strictly Limited Games. I ordered Steel Empire Chronicles 1,5 years ago, and it is still not in production. There was one lousy mail regarding this that I almost forgot already. So I asked them to either tell me when this is gonna happen or refund me. They did neither, but at least responded in a timely manner. Now I replied and hope that I'll get a least my money back. Looking over at TrustPilot, I saw that I am not the only one having issues with them. If it wasn't clear that the concept of paying for something you can maybe get in maybe a few months isn't a good one before, now it's pretty evident to me. I had some fun with Limited Run Games before, but at least they always delivered and I didn't wait more than a year. Still, that was already not my cup of tea. But I thought: SLG is a German based company, so this should work out way smoother. Well ... no. The idea has just turned into companies that run on Kickstarters that aren't Kickstarters, basically: Money up front and we'll see what we can do afterwards. This is some late stage capitalism madness 😂. But even if you as a company decide to hang out your customers to dry, at least have the courtesy to communicate! Tell us on where it's at with a game that can't be shipped. And for that - funny side note mentioned in their response to me - I should subscribe to their newsletter, as if it would help me in any way reading new Ford brochures if my ordered vehicle did not arrive as ordered. You get the idea. Too bad, I once liked the idea very much. From now on, if you come my way with anything that includes exchanging money for a ticket on a waiting list basically, I will bid you adieu 😎

Ordered a Mister Pi FPGA. Have a spare Jaguar console case. Now thinking of ways to combine the two to have a nice and - as far as I know - pretty unique console case for the Mister without destroying the Jaguar case itself. Everything will have to be reversable, if needs be. And it's totally doable, I think - as long as the FPGA will fit inside the Jag case. That I will only know when the thing arrives. But imagine setting up only a Jaguar to play basically everything up to Sega Saturn. Won't part with my real consoles though (but for sure will part with my Atari STE and Amigas), but I would add this to the row of things in my living room. And would also make for a nice showpiece at meetings 😎. Will keep you posted as I progress. Might be over quickly though if it won't fit physically. So fingers crossed!

In other news: I got (another) small portable b/w CRT TV. A "Realistic Portavision". Love the handle it has, reminds me of a SX64 to a certain degree. So I had to test it with my C64 :-) Overall condition is nice and it works just fine. Now I'll part with one of the more recent, smaller other CRTs I have to make room for it (and to calm my conscience).
