Testing some stuff I'll hope to bring to a retro computer party on Saturday, where I'll attend with two friends. No drive emulation, just real floppy disks. It'll be glorious.

Feeling sick, so maybe a good time to dive into Sonic GX on my Amstrad GC4000. I've seen Sonic being spun over to a lot of systems, from Atari 2600 to C64, but none were too convincing. This one, however, is very impressive and holds its own even against the Master System version. It features unique levels, comes with tons of colors, runs pretty fast and has parallax scrolling. Wow! Take a look at it yourself if you can. I've recorded a very short (and not well played) effort here:

Today I fetched a parcel from Songbird Productions from the post office: My copy of Wings of Death for the Atari Jaguar arrived, and it is awesome! The game loads from cart, but the music is fetched from CD accordingly. That makes this the first Jaguar game that does that - good stuff. It's tough, but so nice to play it on the Jag like this 🥰. Cheers everyone, enjoy your weekend 🙌🕹️

Yesterday, my daughter said that the whine of the 46-inch Behemoth CRT was “so loud”.
If you are not aware, CRTs running at standard definition NTSC refresh rates generate a distinctive hum at 15.734kHz due to vibrations in the deflection coils and flyback transformer. Most adults lose the ability to hear frequencies that high as they age, but younger folks can usually hear it. I know I certainly did.
What’s funny is that sound was ubiquitous throughout my childhood, to the extent that I (and most other kids of my generation) tuned it out. In a way it was a sort of superpower, being able to tell if a television was on nearby. And coincidentally, the world shifted to LCDs right around the time I got old enough for my ability to hear that frequency to fade.
Of course nowadays I have mild tinnitus taking the place of that familiar whine. I tune that out too. 😅

I MIGHT HAVE MADE A GRAVE TACTICAL ERROR
Okay so I misremembered the size of my old CRT TV. It was 32 inches, not 36 inches. "Oh, this television will be no problem to move," I thought, "after all I moved the old TV in the 2000s, so this should be fine"
It was not fine.
I mean, we got it here safely. My friend and I barely got it into this spot in the garage. But it is not going in the basement. There is no way it is EVER going in the basement. I will literally end up finishing the insulation and drywall in my garage, because that will be easier than trying to get this thing into the basement. It is MASSIVE. It is a temple to the media gods of yesteryear. It is the monolith from 2001.
36 inches seems only a bit bigger than 32 inches, but in tube area that's 25% larger, and you really, really can tell.

Why do I keep buying CRT TVs? I now own 3 of them, and the new one is a Sony PVM-2530. I haven't seen many around, and I figured that September is a good time to grab a waaaay-too-expensive TV.

This is awesome! It's chunky, impractical, it sounds strange, it's only black & white ... I love every single aspect of this!! 😍❤️👏 As a CRT fan, I am amazed and my day is a bit better just because of this.

Decided to get myself the 7800+ after all, as the French original PAL console and the US modded NTSC one I own each have issued I am no longer willing to accept. So will get rid of those, might eventually buy a plain, unmodded NTSC old one again at some point for my GameDrive. But as I own most of the games I want to play on the 7800, I am probably fine with this for quite some time. Really appreciate the attention to detail they spent here. Now can they please release a Jaguar+? Not that I need one, but it would be awesome. Anyway. Off to play some Ninja Golf. Cheers!
