  1. "Slick Videos Won't Save Lawful Access: Why The Government's Bill C-22 Defence Avoids the Charter, Privacy and Security Concerns Raised By Critics"
    michaelgeist.ca/2026/05/slick-

Quote: "Meanwhile, the government's position on encryption and systemic vulnerability is facing criticism from a wide range of groups.
Despite insisting that the bill brings Canada into line with its Five Eyes partners, Apple, Meta, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Cybersecurity Advisors Network, and even the chairs of the U.S. House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs Committees have all warned that Bill C-22's technical capability requirements would create systemic vulnerabilities that adversaries could exploit."

Do you enjoy surfing the net and using your smartphone without fear of being spied on?
Maybe you dislike politics but if you wish to maintain your privacy and Charter rights then you might wish to pay attention to what is happening with Bill C22.

A great many privacy and security advocates have spoken out against the bill.

Here is a petition that helps explain what is going on.
    action.openmedia.org/page/1887

Bill C22 has passed second reading and is currently being studied in committee but could be sent to the Senate after third reading which could happen soon.
The Libs have a majority so they can ram the bill through the House Of Commons.
The Senate might rubber stamp it so that it becomes law.

There is still time to stop it if enough Canadians push back.
The above petition is a good way to start.

Another way to help is to help spread the message all over the world.

For the forseeable future I shall be tooting on topics related to the Charter and privacy which includes #BillC22 and #AgeGate.

IMO Bill C22 is the greatest threat to our privacy and Charter rights that I have seen since the Cons introduced Bill C30 in 2012 (which was withdrawn after much protest).

The spooks (Cdn spies and thier contractors) wish to create a database containing up to one year's worth of your meta data - internet search history and mobile phone contacts with location data, something that could be used to track you.

On the fediverse I recommend following these accounts, each of whom has been stong proponents of privacy since before Bill C30 (14 years ago).

@mgeist a well noted privacy lawyer who has been providing invaluable privacy information for decades.

@OpenMediaOrg an organization that has been campaigning for privacy and internet rights for Canadians for a great many years.

This video shows what could happen if #BillC22 is passed and people get access to the data.

    youtube.com/watch?v=Y07j3hXAI-

Currently it should be possible to turn off location data on your phone or not use any app that uses location data.

BillC22 and a data breach is all it would take for your privacy to be threatened since the location data would be gathered by the telcom and there is nothing you could set on your phone to stop the collection.

    Scary stuff folks.

Even if the Cons turfed PP they would still be Cons.

Are the FearlessFive all that is left of progressive MPs in Canada [outside of BQ]?
