Pulled out a lot of seedlings today. Maybe enough that I offset the 50 plants I planted earlier in the week.
These were all unwanted children from the honking great massive trees I’m growing a native understory for, or were nasty things birds had pooped into the hedge line.
I nearly lost my mind when I found some Japanese honeysuckle (#Lonicera japonica) but I went back and gave it a nice Cut n Paste of MSF.
I also relocated some, er, #Coriko? hedge plants to fill in gaps in the hedge.

On the downhill side now, but Camellia x vernalis Christmas Carol is a pretty site from October through December. Dark pink blooms with white margins appear on semi-weeping branches, making it a lovely candidate for a container garden. Because it’s a cross between C. sasanqua and C. japonica, it takes the best traits from both worlds and can better tolerate our southern temperature swings, especially through fall and winter.

Later this coming week there will be fennel flowers for salads.
There is a week each Spring where flies of all sizes (very minute to medium sized) converge on the garden for a week or so then mostly disappear till next year. Not house flies - all sorts of other flies. They don't seem to do any harm. I don't mind them. This week is the week.
The only other time I get a range of flies and other flying insects, plus a range of ants, is when one of Japonica's flowers. It becomes an Insect Hotel for a couple of weeks.

Anyone have any experience growing Camellia sinensis (tea #plant)? I'm particularly interested in #advice for growing indoors under a grow light and in passive hydroponics but any tips are great! Think it's okay to grow in range of cats or do I need to keep it out of reach? I don't see it on the ASPCA's toxic plant list though they list Camellia japonica as non-toxic.

🧐 Wer war Knöti?
Eine 3,5 m hohe Japanische Staudenknöterich Pflanze an der Straßenböschung. Ich fand den etwa 10 m² kleinen Knöti im August 2022 zwischen Jungbäumen entlang der Straße. Ich mochte ihn nicht, und so beschloss ich ihn zu killen. Nach 1,5 Jahren war Knöti weg.👉 Wie Knöti verschwand?
Im April 2023 begann ich mit meiner Beethacke Knötis Triebe dich an Boden abzuhacken. Um mir bessere Übersicht zu verschaffen habe ich die Fläche komplett leer geräumt, alle weiteren Pflanzen entfernt. Nur Bäume und schlanke Sträucher ließ ich stehen. Dann, alle 14 Tage habe ich Knöti mit meiner Beethacke heimgesucht. Im September sah er schon sehr mitgenommen aus, traute sich kaum noch aus dem Boden.Im Frühling 2024 konnte er wieder überraschend stark austreiben. Da kamen mir doch Zweifel: Werde ich das grüne Monster jemals besiegen können? Aber ich blieb hartnäckig. Knöti wurde schnell so schwach, dass ich nun auch seine morschen Rhizome zerhacken konnte. Seit Sommer 2024 habe ich nichts grünes von Knöti mehr gesehen. Trotzdem, ich schaue immer noch alle 14 Tage nach.
🧐🐉 Habe inzwischen einen neuen, viel größeren Knöti an der renaturierten Aschach in Esthofen gefunden. Aber den schaffe ich nicht alleine ... Brauche Hilfe 👬👭🧑🤝🧑 🙏
