#plants #plantaddict

Two dorky photos of no makeup me, from another pruning workshop attendee. My jaw is sore & I don't know how to work my mouth properly yet, with immediate dentures in.
I picked some lavender to bring home. Love the smell of lavender.

HECK YEAH!
I got an restock alert for Begonia luxurians from Steve's Leaves and managed to buy one before they sold out again!

Sweet! Mistake in my favor! Plant shop sent me MY order... and someone else's. I reached out and offered to send it to the correct customer or back to them. They thanked me for offering but said to keep it. Now I have TWO beautiful Euphorbia stellatas.

I've been trying to find a Brachystelma barberiae to add to my collection of caudiciforms for years. I'm broke as crap right now and trying to preserve any capital/credit I have for further pandemic hardships.
But I'm also impulsive and greedy so I bought this little one as soon as I received the notification email. At least it was the smallest/cheapest one they had, right?
#PlantAddict #ILikePlantsMoreThanPeople -
Okay... so I failed at my challenge of not buying plants for a month on this, the 9th day.
In my defense, 9 days is pretty good AND it is a plant that is almost never offered for sale.
Not gonna beat myself up about it as long as I'm good for the rest of the month and maybe a little of the next one.

Sorry for the crappy pic but... I found one of my top wishlist #plants Monday!
I had some free time while I was out before work so I swung by one of my favorite little nurseries just to look around & waste some time. Then I saw it: a good-sized Natal Mahogany! And for about half of what I saw it going for while traveling a few months ago.
Turns out, they asked a supplier about getting some in after I'd inquired & it was the only one they ordered.
#Plant #PlantAddict #ILikePlantsMoreThanPeople -
Heck friggin' yeah!! I finally found a #Hoya mitrata for sale in my country! (International orders have resulted in receiving a dead one & another was seized by customs for a fungus.)
As a super awesome bonus, I also asked if they had any Hoya sigillatis and they did so I bought a cutting!
I'm broke but stoked. I'm also really grateful I don't celebrate any upcoming major gift giving holidays & don't have kids so I can splurge on myself.

I took my first ever trip to New Jersey last week to meet more of my boyfriend's family and friends and to attend a wedding.
On our last day there, THREE different family members each gave me a section of a plant they grow: Philodendron bipinnatifidum from his sister, Opuntia humifusa from his uncle, and Tradescantia zebrina from his cousin.
Talk about feeling welcomed!
With their help, my plant collection has finally exceeded 400.

I love it when Summer Rayne Oakes covers a cute #plant that I already have so I don't have to go buy it.
I've never heard Aeschynanthus longicaulis called "zebra basket vine", though - I'm only familiar with it as "black pagoda lipstick plant".

Anyone have any experience growing Camellia sinensis (tea #plant)? I'm particularly interested in #advice for growing indoors under a grow light and in passive hydroponics but any tips are great! Think it's okay to grow in range of cats or do I need to keep it out of reach? I don't see it on the ASPCA's toxic plant list though they list Camellia japonica as non-toxic.
#PlantAdvice #PlantAddict #ILikePlantsMoreThanPeople -
I realized today that I have, and I'm not exaggerating, HUNDREDS of liters of #LECA in my home. Nearly every #plant I grow is in a passive #hydroponics setup.

I can hardly breathe! I won an auction for a Squamellaria kajewskii from Jay Vannini!! This is a species that has been at the top of my wants list for a long, looonnnnggg time. I paid a just ridiculous amount for it but, you know, that's why I work two jobs and share my living expenses with two other people.

Today in #PlantLust: I learned of Hydnophytum caminiferum, a truly alien-looking plant that grows into a mound and forms "chimneys". It is in a genus of plants that are typically myrmecophytes but doesn't seem to be one itself. I can't live without this plant in my collection (through legal, sustainable, non-threatening means). I also can't find a clearly redistributable image to post so here is a link:

Look, you should never shop at walmart... but if you want a cheap #Ficus lyrata (Fiddle-Leaf #Fig), swing by their garden center. The one by us has good sized ones in 10in (25cm) pots for 17 US$. I'd act quickly, though, before they kill them all. I picked the best looking one and even it had been clearly subjected to chronic over-watering.

Just some quick, sloppy pics to share the #orchids in my collection that are presently in #bloom. Despite the evidence to the contrary, I'm not usually a fan of pink flowers.

Today has been a good day! I received two plants I ordered (Nervilia plicata & Monolena primuliflora), I received 5 tarantulas I ordered (Brachypelma boehmei, Ceratogyrus darlingi, Monocentropus balfouri, Poecilotheria metallica & Pterinochilus murinus) plus they threw in a bonus (Theraphosa blondi!), I had a phone interview for a job, and most importantly...
I was offered the job I had a second interview for earlier this week!!

What's my favorite orchid genus?
Hmm. Bulbophyllum! No, wait, Paphiopedilum. Oh, no, Catasetum! Or maybe Myrmecophila. Arrrggg, how am I supposed to pick just one?!?
#PlantAddict #ILikePlantsMoreThanPeople -
I just took the time to count them and there are 131 species of plants and 3 hybrids in my office/plant room. That's the majority of them though there is a good showing in the dining room and kitchen, too, and a smattering in both the living room and the master bathroom. #PlantAddict #ILikePlantsMoreThanPeople
