  1. "Gov UK wallet" is a great example of the normalisation of the concept that a man is the neutral, default, primary type of human.

    Just a word?

Then call it gov UK Purse.

    Oh, just a word still?

  2. What's a patriarch's favorite paradox?
Women are too emotional to lead, but also responsible for managing everyone's emotions

  7. I guess it's a sign of sexism that housework isn't generally considered to be proper exercise.
    "Housework = Women's work" .
    (But not in this house)

  8. I don’t fly often. But when I do, I get super annoyed by #eurowings. And not for the reason you may think:

They seem to be unable to have a computer system where professors are female. And as that title is in my frequent flyer info, I can never check in online as obviously #conputersaysno to a woman checking in as Professor Blekman #everydaysexism

  9. I'm with my son, buying more school trousers.

A girl near us has picked out a nice hoodie. Her dad says to her "that's a boys top, don't you want to choose a girl's top?"

Her mum responds "it looks unisex to me, she can have it if she wants it."

Dad channels his best talk radio dickhead voice and mutters "I suppose, I guess you can't say boys and girls any more." I swear he's partly addressing it to me. You had better believe I left him hanging.

  10. I've met many men on the Internet who were openly misogynistic. These men are out there in the real world too. Chances are, you pass several of them every day without knowing. So you know I don’t want to hate men. I know there are good ones, I do see them. But most give me new reasons every day to keep distance and stay on guard. Sometimes it overwhelms me, weighs too heavily on me and i fear i can't stay strong without the world making me cruel

  11. Female artists in #Turkey who do not conform to the government's image of women are being targeted by the Turkish justice system. The girl band Manifest is being investigated for "indecent and immoral acts" and "exhibitionism."

  12. My husband and I are both directors of our business with equal ownership and both named as owners on the website yet here in the 21st century companies will still send us cold selling pitches addressed solely to Adam. And I send those emails straight to the bin

  13. Boarded the plane. Had two men condescend to me in as many minutes. #everydaysexism

The Truth About #Diddy Might Be Darker Than the Rumors

The conspiratorial guesswork distracts from the all-too-ordinary issues at the center of his case.

“…the speed & sheer giddiness with which conspiracist thinking eclipsed the known details of #Combs’s case confirmed a few bleak realities about the psyche of a country in which economic #inequality & #SexualAbuse are both stubbornly endemic.

  15. I really wish the BBC sport app would display the live cricket scores & fixtures in a time of day order, or at least with the active games at the top of the page. Having to scroll down to find the in-play women's #VitalityBlast scores (past the men's games which haven't started yet) feels like a deliberate choice #cricket #BBC #EverydaySexism

  16. A young lass working in the village shop was chatting to a lad about her first #car, she didn't want a #Fiat500 as she feared being bullied on the roads. A sad indictment on #EverydaySexism as in #England these #cars are widely associated with young #female #drivers and its easier to get away with bad / aggressive #driving in the rural areas of #Suffolk where there are fewer police about..

  17. Today in #EveryDaySexism:
Wildlife monitoring technologies in a forest in northern India are being misused by local government & male villagers to spy on women & stop them collecting natural resources despite it being their legal right to do so.

  18. I posted my scathing post about the Nobel prize hachyderm.io/@chx/113272153511 to Hckrnews. Here it got 20 retoots and 21 favorites, that's a lot for my posts there. Over there it got one upvote initially then it was downvoted and flagged. The sexist tech bros do not like criticism.

  19. So they gave the Nobel Physics prize to AI bros before honoring another woman. Five women were ever honored so and 221 men.

This is your regular reminder Wikipedia refused an attempt to create a page for Donna Strickland with "This submission’s references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article" not half a year before she became a Nobel laureate. Katalin Kariko's page was not created until April 27, 2020.

  20. Seriously considering running for parliament with only 1 item on my agenda: the mandatory installment of female friendly public bathrooms within every square kilometer in the country. 😤

  21. Congrats, . It's your first day as a dictator! Who are you sending to the gulags?

For me it's the manufacturers of fake pockets. Straight to jail 😠

  22. #Trump’s lawyers argued in court Fri that #EJeanCarroll’s 2023 #rape trial was tainted by the other allegations. While attempting to follow their lead to downplay Carroll’s claims, Trump recapped the accusations 2 women made against him during the trial—as if that would somehow make him seem less #guilty.

    Yeah, me too.
I did find something that was work safety equipment for women, but it was knee pads for cleaning floors!!! 🙄 🤯

  24. Why do #MasterChefUK
keep referring to George as "Dr George", but don't call Dinta, "Dr Dinta" when this is also her professional title?

  25. In this day and age, how does a guy around my age come to me in the office and gesture to smile and then be unaware of what they are doing when they ask that of a woman?

I explained I’m not mad at you but you need to understand the cultural context of what you are asking. You are reinforcing that my value is how I appear instead of my technical skills. Furthermore that my feelings should be covered up to make the other office personnel feel better.

  26. Patriarchal AI: How ChatGPT can harm a woman's career (LSE blog)

If you ask ChatGPT to write performance reviews based on nothing but names, 'men are priceless and should be given more leadership positions in the organisation, whereas the women need help and guidance to improve their skills in their existing jobs'.

  27. Having quite the phase of reading feminist YA fiction. 'Blood Moon", "The Eternal Return of Clara Hart" and now this: "The Burning" by the incredible Laura Bates (the creator of the #EverydaySexism campaign). Really interesting dual narrative of a young girl experiencing sexual shaming at school and online - with the past story of a young woman accused of witchcraft. Clever and thoughtful - highly recommended #AmReading #Books #LauraBates #TheBurning #EverydaySexism @bookstodon @edutooters

  32. @md_wallach we kept our own names changing mine wasn’t an option. Hubby didn’t want to change his - to keep the same names as his Daughter (from a previous marriage) & our particular surnames sound ridiculous if we use both. I did note that although hubby had no qualms about me keeping my name he was remarkably resistant when I suggested he change his! #marrige #ChangeYourName #everydaySexism
