New data, released today. -- In 2022, the U.S. wine imported wine worth $7.321 billion, i.e., $261m or 3.7% more than in 2021. France alone accounts for more than half of this growth (+$131m). Large absolute gains also for Italy and New Zealand.

In 2019 (before BREXIT), the UK was the world’s 10th largest wine exporter (#12 in 2021). It mostly exports bottled bulk to the EU and high-end to Hong Kong and the U.S.. UK’s Post #BREXIT (2021) wine exports to the European Union have declined by $191m or 51% (compared to 2019). Particularly sharp drops in Germany ($56m) and the Netherlands ($51m). Exports to Non-EU countries have stayed flat overall. #winetrade

Little known, the UK is a major wine exporter (mostly bottled bulk from Australia & the U.S. to the EU and high-end French wine to Hong-Kong). The export market to Germany, nicely built up 2016-2020 (worth US$60.5 million in 2019), was almost completely eradicated by #BREXIT.

Wine's share of Italy's total commodity exports has been growing. In 2020, wine accounted for 1.45% of all Italian commodity exports. This is due to two factors. Main Export Markets for White #Burgundy Wine, 2021 and 2022. Compared to 2021, 2022 export value grew by 12.2% to €705m. Main export markets are the U.S., the UK, and #Japan -- all three with strong growth.
