  1. #FiberuaryChallenge Day 5 (belatedly): Outside. It's been a real long time since I've done any spinning. I used to bring my little EEW Nano everywhere with me. I think it was good for us both to take a trip to the beach together last weekend during the Superbowl. #DHmakes

  3. Was hoping to have embroidery progress to share for #FiberuaryChallenge Day 3: Work in Progress, but I got on a roll with my second anniversary weaving and got through a month and a half of daily text chat log data. 4. #FiberuaryChallenge Day 3: Mood. Honestly, things have been pretty rough lately. Working on this weaving reminds me there were good times once & maybe again someday. 5. #FiberuaryChallenge Day 2: New Beginnings. I totally blew up my life in 2024. Now I'm finishing a dataviz scarf of 2 years of daily texting w/ my girlfriend girlfriend. Text counts, mapped to a color representing a numeric range. The loops are for the days w/ < 5% messages had images. #DHmakes

  6. All right, I'll play along with the #FiberuaryChallenge. For day 1, "Hello, it's me", I teach data visualization with textiles at Stanford as part of my digital humanities job. Can often be found posting to #DHmakes. I do a little of almost all fiber things except cross-stitch. I hate that one. 😅

  7. Great #MultilingualDH food for thought, reflecting on global Englishes, the afterlives of British colonial education, and how that intersects with what writing is judged to be "human".

  11. Local tween surprised me with the news that his D&D friend's birthday party was today, so whipped up a little dice bag and super (good/bad) luck pendant that should do the trick. #DHmakes #DHsewing

  12. Leaving aside the nature and details of the lawsuit, I'm filing this one away as another example of real-world effects of people's attitudes about English vs. every other language for next time I teach #MultilingualDH.

  14. Even when the world is terrible, having the new grad students show up, full of excitement and getting lost, reminds me why I love my job. Paired last night's little t-shirt creation with the Academic Tarot Deck, which felt right for the occasion. #DHsewing #DHmakes

  15. Tomorrow is the orientation for new grad students, and I've reworked a dress that I loved in theory but never quite fit the way I wanted it to, along with an XL t-shirt I ordered from Ukraine in 2022 into a new shirt, vaguely SUCHO themed, for the occasion. #DHmakes #DHsewing

Fish eating brain design was UChicago library graffiti. Jewelry, though, is new joys from @peculiarityshop.bsky.social. #DHmakes #DHsewing

  20. Still on leave, but came in today to talk about SUCHO and AI with the Estonian Minister of Culture. Made some SUCHO pants last night, the top is my current dataviz embroidery of kid custody and where I sleep, and I have a spicy t-shirt underneath on the theme of AI. 🥰 #DHmakes #DHsewing

  21. #corpora I bet we all have some anxiety about them. How do you choose what texts to look at? How do you know when you have enough? The #DataSittersClub is back, asking those questions and more to corpus linguist Shelley Staples, while exploring pizza and the Newbery Award for youth literature. #DigitalHumanities datasittersclub.github.io/site

Today is my last day lecturing in the #AI class so I made a tunic from imagined redacted government documents about alien invasions, along with my data pants and the fire shawl I've been knitting for the last month. #OpenAI drama, #EA / #EAcc, org models, human relationships, and all that jazz! #DHsewing

  24. We are so, so close to publishing the next #DataSittersClub book, I have to share the cover. @xandaschofield helps us get to the bottom of topic models in "DSC 20: Xanda Rescues the Topic Modeling Disaster"! #TopicModeling #DigitalHumanities

  25. Reading through the next #DataSittersClub draft on #topicmodeling with the delightful @xandaschofield , and I think you all are going to be in for a real Thanksgiving treat. This is the piece that I wish I'd read as a first encounter with topic models.

  26. @foundhistory @tillgrallert @ryancordell There's been since the official program ended, for sure. But I do wonder to what extent this is it for the field.

People are splitting apart, into , , cultural analytics, the TEI camp, the collections camp. What's the center of "DH" that will hold for a while longer? I think we do have some momentum around a shared core with ACH, but internationally (which is where I personally work), I'm much less certain.
