  8. When he performed in Manchester, Dylan was on tour between the release of “Highway 61 Revisited” and “Blonde on Blonde”, and his audiences represented two camps. Along with the rock listeners who had turned “Like a Rolling Stone” into a hit, there were folk fans who had wanted him to keep writing protest songs and who considered his electric guitar and his rock backup band to be a sellout and a betrayal. It was musical taste as a political and generational schism: an early sign of the rift between the doctrinaire, Puritanical old left, which wanted straightforward agitprop for the masses, and the more amorphous, hedonistic counterculture that considered having a good time to be an insurrection in itself. The two sides were as dedicated as they were naive; capitalism would soon turn them both into market segments.

  14. Interesting NY Times piece on what Dylan and Lennon (who usually got along very well) were really talking about in the back of that limo in 1966: nytimes.com/2026/04/05/style/b

Whether they were high, or just washed out (Dylan was extremely exhausted at the time)- what Dylan was getting at in the one part of it is that he felt Lennon really nicked his style with Norwegian Wood. Here's the full, unedited 20+ minute video of them talking: youtube.com/watch?v=rSO_YniK4XE. Fascinating shit.

  18. RE: zirk.us/@RandomBobDylanLyrics/

This is interesting. This bot grabs lyrics from BobDylan.com but these lyrics are different from the album version, which has:

If you see her say hello, she might be in Tangier.

She left here last early spring, is living there I hear.

I can't find out if the website's version is old or new. Dylan changed the lyrics after the album cover (Blood on the Tracks) was printed but before the disks were pressed, so there's a discrepancy for the first release. I know this because I used to own a copy. But someone stole it from me so I can't check.

On the other hand Dylan is famous for changing lyrics in performance, so maybe these are new lyrics. Who knows, but what a surprise to see the bot serving up what seem on the surface to be the wrong lyrics.

    That's it. That's the toot!
