I’m on my way home from my first #PyConUS, which was as fun and friendly as I’d expected ❤️🐍❤️. Always great to meet folks IRL whom I’d previously only known through Discord et al (especially so many @pyladies!), and to see folks I’ve been lucky enough to get know before at @pybay, @NorthBayPython, or @pybeach.
And kind of a trip to hear Travis Oliphant refer several times to work Paul Dubois did in the 90s on Numerical Python, when in the 90s I only knew Paul as “Friend’s dad who drives us to the movies and helps with Mortal Kombat”!

Listening to the Python Steering Council panel with Barry Warsaw, Donghee Na, Pablo Galindo Salgado, Savannah Ostrowski and Thomas Wouters at PyCon US 2026 🐍
One of those moments where you remember how much invisible work, discussion and coordination happens behind Python itself.
-
uv makes it easier than ever to try new releases of Python. You don’t need to wait for the official release to give it a try!

Sitting in the keynote room at PyCon US 2026 listening to @amcasari 🎤
The way she moves through topics like complexity, socio-technical systems, and the unexpected behaviors that emerge from them makes the whole room follow along naturally.
Really enjoying the examples and the direction of the talk so far. 🐍

Language matters.
t’s so nice to listen to someone articulate the impacts of the words we use, and the words that are constantly shouted at us by those with giant megaphones.

Last day at #PyConUS today and it’s the job fair. 🎡
If you are at the conference and want to have a 1-2-1 chat with me about careers, hiring, job search or anything else I have got a clear day and looking forward to meeting lots of new people!
Here’s a link to my diary to book a specific time and place to meet: calendly.com/foxleytalent/pycon

😸 Loved this #PyconUS lightning talk:
"Find Better 🐱 Cat Emojis with your text!"https://slides.takanory.net/slides/20260517pyconus/
Takanori made emojis searchable by generating descriptions with Ollama+gemma4, then embedded with SentenceTransformers + multilingual-e5-base, and searched with ANN.

Some of us already know we're birders, and some of us will discover at some point there was a birder inside us all along. :)
Anyway, if you like birds, there are Swinhoe's white-eyes in the trees right around the convention center. It's always fun to come to a conference and leave with a new bird for your life list!
-
Can you get to the lightning talk/ keynote area through the convention center this morning, or do you still have to go around to the Westin side entrance?

Just published my notes from this year's Python Packaging Summit at PyCon US. If you've ever been curious what one of these is like from the inside: Wheel 2.0 + Zstandard, PyPI abuse vectors, conda vs pip, nab as a pip-resolver candidate. 🐍📦 https://bernat.tech/posts/pycon-us-2026-packaging-summit-recap/ #PyConUS

Thanks everyone for coming to my talk today. I appreciate being able to share the @pyladiescon story with all of you.
I am trying something new. I'd love your feedback about the talk, so I've prepared this short survey with only 3 questions, and it is totally anonymous.

I met old friends again, exchanged a few words with many people, and captured a few more moments together with photos 🙂
These small moments with the community are honestly one of the most meaningful parts of conferences like this.

Day two of PyCon US 2026 is over ✨
It was another intense day full of talks, discussions, hallway track conversations, and many more encounters with people from the community 📸
-
"you've bid against yourself - are you comfortable with that?"
#PyConUS -
"we might need an extra pen tonight, so if anyone who just won a pen wants to donate it..."

"please pretend this is real money you're going to spend. This is a piece of plastic.
anyway we were at $300 - do I hear $300"

And a follow up from @nedbat who brings the Pacman rule to time as well as space by leaving silence in a conversation for people to join. 😍
