Trees have an interesting way of healing after having their centers burned out. They seem to heal at the edges, and start to look like two new trees growing along the edges. I don't know if it's from lighting or a forest fire, but this is the second tree I've seen just like this in the last two hikes.

Now that days are getting cooler and work is slowing down a bit, I'm finally getting outside more consistently again. Yesterday I did a gorgeous 14-mile hike along a river valley, up to a ridge, and back down a different valley. That's the farthest I've hiked in a day in about 20 years!
