  1. This week the annual @pgconfdev development conference is happening, this time in Montréal—and it's great to be back together with #PostgreSQL folks, to catch up with Microsoft teammates, & to prep for my talk tomorrow. The talk is titled: "What 10 Postgres major contributors did to become a hacker" and it's built from stories and insights from some of the Postgres developers who have come on the #TalkingPostgres podcast I host each month.

If you're at this amazing conference, I hope you can join me. (Sneak peek of the cover slide attached 👇)

  2. New episode of the #TalkingPostgres #podcast 🎙️

In Ep27, Peter Farkas of @ferretdb shares how a Himalayan trek led to building an open source MongoDB alternative on top of #PostgreSQL (& the newly-open sourced DocumentDB extension from Microsoft)

Plus: FerretDB was NOT the original name. And how Trappist cheese 🧀 now gets a footnote in database history.

Listen wherever you get your podcasts. And if you like the show PLEASE tell your friends 🚀 so they can discover it too ❤️

  12. On stage at #PGConfIndia now is Nikhil Sontakke from the #PostgreSQL team at Microsoft presenting to a standing room only crowd on: “Postgres: ServerLESS is more?”

Paraphrasing from Ashutosh Bapat, Nikhil is explaining the complex topic of serverless computing with everyday, familiar examples that touch Indian minds.

My favorite is this classic quote from Nikhil’s talk: “Everything’s well that ends in the WAL”

  13. On the big ballroom stage at #PGConfIndia in Bengaluru is Varun Dhawan from the Azure Database for PostgreSQL team at #Microsoft giving his rather caffeinated & energetic talk about “Using Postgres to locate the best coffee near you!”

And to teach us about how to use #PostgreSQL with vectors for semantic search, Varun used data about local coffeeshops, a local delivery service called Zomato, a cameo by Dora the Explorer, vector comparisons by @pamelafox … and apparently Varun himself had several (!!) coffees before getting up on stage. Lots of #Postgres fun!

  14. Am practicing my talk for #PGConfIndia, to be presented later today here in Bengaluru… a Beginners Guide to Partitioning vs. Sharding in #PostgreSQL! If you are one of the 525 #Postgres people here at PGConf India, I hope you can join me!

  15. Today at #PGConfIndia in Bengaluru, engineering director Sujit Kuruvilla of #Microsoft presented a sponsored keynote on the big stage, talking about “All the Postgres Things at Microsoft”—sharing updates (& demos) of what the team is doing for the #PostgreSQL open source project, for the PG community, and for our managed service customers in the cloud. Hopefully those in the audience who saw Sujit’s talk got the sense of how much our team loves ❤️Postgres.

Shout out to the #PGConfIndia organizers for making this amazing event happen—I’m so glad to be here. 🙏

  16. Happening now at #PGConfIndia in Bengaluru, major contributor Ashutosh Bapat from the #PostgreSQL team at Microsoft is on stage giving a talk about something he is very passionate about in Postgres: “Graph databases, PostgreSQL and SQL/PGQ”
    #Postgres #databases #OpenSource

  17. On the big stage right now at #PGConfIndia is Amit Langote from the #PostgreSQL team at #Microsoft and there are 3 things to know:

    1) Amit is a wonderful #Postgres major contributor & committer, & (2) is presenting a talk about “Hacking Postgres Executor For Performance” (3) somehow the stars aligned and I managed to capture a pic of Amit smiling! 😊 📸

  18. Just boarded my flight! ✈️ Am excited to be going to #PGConfIndia for the 1st time—to see #PostgreSQL friends, meet new #Postgres ppl, visit the Microsoft office & meet teammates in person, & give my talk, a Beginner’s Guide to Partitioning & Sharding in Postgres. Come say hello 👋👋 at the #Microsoft booth!

  19. Any other #PostgreSQL people going to #PGConfIndia in March?

This will be my 1st time at PGConf India—& am honored that my talk, a Beginner's Guide to Partitioning & Sharding in Postgres, has been accepted to the conference 💥

    Reco's/tips for Bengaluru welcome!! 🇮🇳

  20. Those of you who follow me for #Postges things know that in my work at Microsoft I spend the bulk of my ⏰ working w/ the #PostgreSQL #opensource community.

But hey, lots of customers run on Azure Database for PostgreSQL & lots of my teammates work on it, so I care about Postgres on Azure too 🐘☁️

So although I drive a minivan ⚽️ I'm going to call my brother to make sure he sees this official BMW & Azure customer story, to tell him my work powers his car! customers.microsoft.com/en-us/

  21. Some of my teammates who work on #AzureDBPostgres & #PostgreSQL more generally are in Chicago this week at #MSIgnite

A friend just sent me this pic of, left to right, Maxim Lukiyanov (Microsoft), Orhun Oezebak (UBS), and Jay Yang (UBS) giving a talk about how to improve accuracy of GenAI apps with Azure Database for PostgreSQL.

Go Maxim! It's always fun when you get to co-present with a super-smart customer like the team at UBS.

Also: Gratitude 🙌 for my #Microsoft teammates who came to support the #PostgreSQL open source community (we were a Platinum sponsor ✅) & meet with Azure Database for PostgreSQL customers too.

  23. Happening now, it’s Day 3 of #PGConfNYC and #PostgreSQL contributor @petereisentraut of EDB is presenting about “Making the best use of modern SSL”.

The talk is rich with useful details but I like the high level guidance: 👀 think about what you’re doing, document it, automate it ✅
