  1. CW: Absurdly bad day

The day started with my office ceiling collapsing on my new loom, and ended with my data capsule, presumably, being possessed by Satan, given it wouldn't do anything besides type the number 6, unbidden as I was trying to teach.

  7. Today's most-fun #DigitalHumanities task: pulling up the #DataSittersClub book cover visualizations and trying to pick yarn to roughly color-match our corpus. #TextileMakerspace #knitting

  8. Class registration opened yesterday, and to my surprise, my completely un-advertised "Data Visualization with Textiles" class has two EECS students signed up already. 😳 Guess we're going interdisciplinary next quarter! #textiles #TextileMakerspace

  9. This morning I found the perfect dress for "I'm teaching PCA today but mostly I'm just excited about the floor loom showing up after class." #DHsewing #DigitalHumanities #loom #weaving #TextileMakerspace

  10. For #fiberuary intentional holes week... I'm not totally sure if these holes are intentional? But one of the joys of shared crafting space is you can always imagine you've come across the traces of an inspired idea. #TextileMakerspace

  11. I have spent the day teaching everything from #HathiTrust collection-building to vanquishing Word gremlins to getting Unicode data into Excel to rotary cutter skills to Cricut configuring to threading a serger and coverstitch at the #TextileMakerspace -- all to friendly & agreeable adults. I am so tired. I would not survive two days as an elementary school teacher. #DigitalHumanities

  12. Rhyming is a cheap hack for relevance, but I couldn't resist bringing "fashion" to the "passion" pop-up exhibit at the Library with the Mobile #TextileMakerspace. Today's dress is 1924, a mix of magazines and fashion catalogs. And Dr Cheese Bones held a sign I embroidered today, with a salvaged screw-up. #DigitalHumanities #DHsewing #embroidery

  13. Today I'm running an event at the #TextileMakerspace so I made a new dress last night. Calling this one "sewing is fun and easy and you should try it". 😂 The skirt is reminiscent of a Japanese sewing pattern with all the pieces laid out on top of one another. #DHsewing

  14. There's nothing like watching a video for how to bind off from the knitting machine to make you realize, gee, this project definitely needs to be longer. Much longer. So much longer will it ever truly be done? Let's just keep knitting. 🤯 #knitting #TextileMakerspace

  15. Update: I have been ordered to take "whatever that thing is" off the tables and not put it anywhere near the couch. 😅 It has now taken up residency by the Christmas tree. #knitting #TextileMakerspace

  16. Gee I hope no one in my family needs these tables for anything during the next week or so because the punch card knitting machine has arrived and called dibs. #knitting #TextileMakerspace

  17. I've had a library degree for 13 years and just today wrote my first holiday donor thank-you letter! 🙌🏻 It was fun gushing about the things we've been able to do with the #TextileMakerspace. 🥰

  18. CW: Failure and tools

Gotta appreciate a machine that anticipates the inevitability of failure and gives you an easy path for repair. #TextileMakerspace #DigitalHumanities

  19. CW: T-shirtery 👚 👕

@miriamkp That would be super helpful, thanks! We're getting a dedicated modern computer for the #TextileMakerspace soon and I imagine the Cricut will be getting more use. (Also, we have an embroidery machine... Need some excuse to invite you back to Stanford for a making day.)

  20. CW: US election, missing skeleton update

I was delighted to find Dr. Cheese Bones back at her post at the #TextileMakerspace. We didn't discuss what she'd been up to; even skeletons deserve their Halloween fun. But today she has an important civic message to share.

  21. I really believe in #DHmakes as a thing worth cultivating, and the plan was to invest in reviving the #TextileMakerspace this spring. That fell apart with the war, but I'm hopeful it's less of a lost cause than Dr. Cheese Bones attempting to knit. #DayofDH2022

  22. In a #ACH2024 lightning talk session with lots of (not only) grad students making databases, I'm struck by how much progress we've made in the last 10 years. People are thinking of their data as data and not first as website. Long term stability is part of the conversation. It's beautiful to see.
