Well now, looks like I can set the date and time on the #BeBox via the terminal. That’s a start.
-
I’m happy to report that my #BeBox booted right up. Other than playing with it a few times over the years, the last time it was used on a regular basis was in 2000, when it was an intranet web server under my desk at EyeWire. The file modification dates attest to that.
I’ll need to figure out how to update the OS, since the clock can’t be advanced past 2010.

The #BeBox is one of the most interesting items in my collection … and it became even more interesting after reading this article.

@Luke @paperposts The smarter choice was using a supercapacitor, like Apple did with the #MessagePad 2x00 and #eMate series #Newton devices. It would hold clock related data for ages if you removed the main power or battery. Of course, user and system setting were stored in flash RAM, so you never lost that.

I’ve been meaning to try 10PRINT in #NewtonScript or #NSBASIC for ages.

Since the giveaway of the film canisters went so well, let’s try something else …
How about nine wooden film holders that fit 3¼"x4" and 3¼"x4¼" sheet film. They were manufactured by #Lisco and #Graflex. These were acquired along with a bunch of darkroom stuff years ago and they don’t fit my 4x5 view camera.
Again, they could be yours for the cost of postage.

@retrotechtive Yeah, I get what you’re trying to accomplish. I thought maybe some #RetroComupting folk would being triggered by the bare chassis of classic hardware or something.
Maybe just hashtag the posts so people can mute if required?

@IPXFong The @TechByAndroda expansion for the #eMate is a pretty spectacular upgrade. I have several of them installed.

Believe it or not, all of these #Xserve and #XRAID bits are still available. Pick one or pick them all. Cover the shipping and they could be yours.

It’s #RetroComputing Get Rid of Some Goodies Monday!
Anyone need service parts for an #Xserve G5, Xserve Xeon (early 2009), or #XRAID?
I have a set of new, in box parts* including the logic board, fan array, and power supply for each Xserve, plus the controller and cooling modules for the XRAID.
I’m willing to let these go for the cost of shipping from western Canada.
* Items are unused, in the original packaging, but everything has been opened for inspection at some point.

Pulled a pair of Macintosh IIcx machines out of storage yesterday. It’s been close to two decades since these boxes have seen the light of day. Miraculously, neither of the original 35 year old batteries had explodified. Plenty of capacitor leakage, of course.

Imaging the bare hard drive pulled from a Power Macintosh 7500/100 to an external FireWire drive connected to my trusty Power Macintosh G3.
As one does.
