CW: Medical procedure; Alzheimer's
Another successful lumbar puncture. Nearly done my 10. #biomarkers #dementia #alzheimers #NPH Ready for our new clinic in the new year!

@[email protected] Hi, few comments: I think this is a terrible picture choice to represent #Alzheimer's, furthering unhelpful stereotypes, and 2) you don't link to the #study here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8854390/ which was 3) in *mice* not humans, using chemical damage to #nasal #epithelium and 4) doesn't say anything about nosepicking, and 5) the study didn't find any increase in #AD #pathology: "we could not detect C. pneumoniae inclusions in the brain [...] did not detect any evidence of distinct Aβ deposits"

Is #TheUndeclaredWar going to be full of these daft visual analogies for code? I've just started.

CW: Vascular disease, dementia risk
#Medin is a breakdown product of MFG-E8 (aka Lactadherin) . Previously shown to be involved in aortic intimal proliferation, this paper demonstrates co-aggregation with amyloid-B in #Alzheimer's https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-022-05440-3 #newtarget #dementia #cerebrovascular

CW: APOE in #Alzheimer's
This is what #EPAD and other studies are showing. #APOE4 is such a huge risk factor for #Alzheimer's (akin to a decade of ageing) that it's basically a different, #amyloid-heavy disease. There are other routes to #Tauopathy in those with e.g. E3/E3. Paper from the great and good here https://www.nature.com/articles/s41583-021-00533-w
But if Amyloid++ 4/4 genotypes predict best response AND worse SE to anti-Amyloid therapies, shouldn't we start to TEST for it and learn how best to communicate results?
