  1. "The vitamin D you can get beneath a sunny sky provides a number of benefits: boosted immunity, a more diverse gut microbiome, and sharper memory are just a few possibilities."

  2. I'm going to try this trick for falling back to sleep after waking up in the middle of the night.

  3. “When residents are equipped with knowledge, tools and a sense of purpose, they are not only capable of managing organic waste at the household level, they become active contributors to a more resilient and regenerative urban farm system."

  4. My blackberry bushes have flower buds!

  5. Whee!

For the first time since December 2025, the Great Lakes are almost ice-free.

(There's still a small sliver of ice on the northern shore of Lake Superior.)

  6. Picked up three unknown tomato plants at today's plant swap. As well as a columbine. And a couple calendulas.

My native plants were popular. Sad there weren't any other gardeners focusing on native plants at the swap.

And not as many gardeners at the swap.

I did talk with 2 gardeners about no dig gardening, which they had never heard of.

Once I explained it to them, they both said they were going to give it a try. They loved not having to dig out grass!

  7. Wild hyacinth (Camassia scilloide) in bloom in my garden today!

  8. "Parallels have been made to The Great Michigan Fire of 1871, which swept across the state and impacted 2.5 million acres.

  9. “'That experience gave me encouragement that there was light at the end of the tunnel,' she said, reflecting deeply on how profoundly those three boxes of food, along with those three acts — dignity, respect and kindness — changed her whole perspective.

    And recalibrated her life."

  10. Growing up, during cold winter weather I was taught to check on our neighbors. Not only the elderly on the street, everyone nearby to make sure they were ok.

We helped each other shovel snow, shared stories of what we've been doing, and as kids, built snowmen and snow forts.

Today, I helped our 90-year-old neighbors carry groceries from their car into their house.

Checked on our 30-something single neighbor as well as family of 3 teenagers and mom to make sure they were ok.

  11. Enjoying my new one-handle kitchen faucet. We had a two-handle kitchen faucet for years.

Now I can turn on the water with my forearm when my hands are sticky, and not get the handle sticky.
