  1. The Guardian is compiling a list of the top 100 novels voted for by authors which is of course a useless and blandifying exercise.

What does have some use is that they’re telling you each author’s top ten, so that you know all the ones who voted for Lolita and shouldn’t be left alone with children.

  8. Speaking as a Northern Irish Protestant, some Unionists have completely colonial attitudes to the place.

The North of Ireland does not need these sorts of politicians; it does not need the Union at all.

And Unionism, if you like that sort of thing, would be better and more successful without them.

  9. Is Sunak actually proposing conscripting Irish Nationalist and Republican teenagers in the North of Ireland to the British Army? If so, lol, good luck with that.

If not, I’d just point out that the North of Ireland was
exempted from conscription in both WW1 and WW2. If it is to be exempted from National Service, maybe a lot of teenagers would find changing their home addresses to Belfast or Derry an attractive option?

  10. People who voted for the on the island of Ireland, 1998: 2,119,549

  11. Mr Gotcha here has a point, but until actually dies it will continue offering things that other platforms don't, and people who I like to read and interact with will stay on it. I continue to use it for those things, but also hope that it permanently falls over.

Prompted by yet another petite mort.

  12. , those little slices of , how I love them.
