From the same 1981 Judge Dredd annual, a short story with art by the brilliant and much-missed Kevin O'Neill, depicting a Shok Trooper, a supposedly inert remains of a robot soldier a metalworks artist intends to use for sculpture. It has other ideas ..
This short was totally ripped off for Stanley's film Hardware. The film-makers were subsequently forced to admit this.

I was always a fan of #comicartists like #GeoffDarrow, #KevinONeill, and magazines like #MadMagazine where they try to pack as much STUFF into the page as they can with little "easter eggs" that require paying attention to small characters in the background or the margins. I've tried to replicate these little easter eggs with interesting items throughout my #comicbook room. Here is one of these little treasures -- #Moebius collectible trading cards from 1993 reprinting @TheArtOfMoebius .

Kev's art was unmistakable, his support for recognition for Brit comics writers & artists was powerful.He's instrumental in shaping early 2000 AD, which in turn gave so many creators their break (and it still does). When I was a kid I had no idea comics could look like that until Kev came along.

#rip #KevinONeill He was the artist behind among other things Marshal Law and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I found his art style rather disturbing - which, if he cared at all, would probably have made him smile. A real talent who will be missed.
