Our favorite family tradition is Catnukah. Each night of #Chanukah we light the candles, feed the cats a treat, and then give them a present. And the cats LOVE it.
This year on the first night Auggie meowed happily as soon as I started setting up the menorah. He remembered!
All of them gather to watch us light. But of course the treats and toys are their highlight.

The BREEDer smiled, a lean, hungry look. “Hibernian Highland.”
“Excellent stock, that,” Minos said. His hearty tone was met with a nod.
Minos pulled back the creature’s lips. Still asleep, it didn’t react. “Sharp, no abnormalities,” he pronounced. “The human you BREED it with?”
“Greek heroic, the line traces back to one of Medea’s brood.”
“I’ll take it for my maze.” Minos handed the breeder a card. “Deliver it here. Is untraceable gold good, or do you prefer Unis?”

Today, Dr. David Wishart, a professor of biology AND computer science at University of Alberta won Canada’s highest honour for science & engineering, the Herzberg Gold Medal, for his pioneering work in metabolomics. Years ago, I worked with Dr. Wishart’s equally brilliant wife, Debby Waldman, when she wrote a humour column and book reviews for the Edmonton Journal. So it was a double thrill to be at the big NSERC reception, hosted by House of Commons Speaker Francis Scarpaleggia, to cheer on one of Edmonton’s scientific giants.
