  6. From Svivah:
When we show our memories and invite the reader right into our experience — that’s how our stories become shared.

And that’s the reason we wanted to read When We See You Again together — Rachel Goldberg-Polin’s memoir about the aftermath of her son Hersh’s abduction and death following October 7th. There is such power in sharing our stories, just like there is such power in witnessing someone else’s well-told memories.

Next week, on Thursday, June 4, from 8:00–9:15 pm ET, come be with us to witness and reflect on Rachel’s story together: svivah.org/gatherings/bookclub

  7. From JTA:

"The [museum exhibit] show, titled “Jews Are Magic,” digs into the ongoing Jewish fascination with mysticism, folk healing, fortune-telling and occult practices. Drawing mostly on archival materials from the 19th and early 20th centuries in Eastern Europe and the Lower East Side, it features palm-reading guides, amulets, handwritten petitions known as kvitlekh and advertisements for self-styled psychics who promised help with everything from illness to legal disputes to matters of the heart. The artifacts capture a world where official religious authorities often frowned on such practices, but everyday Jews made room for them anyway.""

  9. "According to this midrash, we were all at Mount Sinai to receive the Torah, but each one of us had a different experience of revelation at Mount Sinai. We all experienced the Torah according to who we are. Each of us experiences the Torah differently. Just like tastes are different, so too our experience of the Torah is different.”

  11. From Svivah:
We all really wanted to spend Shavuot with you. It’s when we celebrate each of us receiving the Torah at Sinai — this magnificent moment of community, but when we all received the unique Torah our ears were supposed to hear — and we LOVE that! So we’re each sending you a little something for this Shavuot. And we’re just going to imagine us all together, celebrating.
