  1. I remember this illegal single-funder PAC House Speaker Mike Schultz in Hooper created and funded in 2024 to try to mess with my Millcreek Utah House Representative election. We voted in Sahara Hayes and have never regretted it.

Now, the Utah Republican Party is reusing those same tired ads. These men and women don't care about women and girls sports. They care about disenfranchising and bullying a minority they think they can get away with harming, because they know they can't win on their record.

What have they done but fund billionaires and pollute our state?

  2. I just finished The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez. I wish it hadn't ended, so I could know what happened next. Still, I get why it ended there and to be honest, that was the end of the story being told.

It reminded me a bit of Slow Gods by Claire North. However, while it takes a long time, the characters of Slow Gods are able to see some kind of social justice whereas the corporate overlords in The Vanished Birds are much more like our own reality. Not that it's doom and gloom. It's just more nuanced in how fault is distributed and true justice isn't likely.

I don't want to spoil either books. They're both worth a read, but The Vanished Birds does have a wider cultural distribution of characters than the cis, white man that is Slow Gods' main character.

We who brought you the Hanta virus yet again shrug our shoulders as a response to a potential public health disaster.

  4. "Do you know how you plan to vote?

"I was a 100% yes for it until the church made its statement. Now I’m quite torn. I absolutely believe in prophets. I do believe they receive revelation. I do believe that they speak out on important things.

"I don’t know if they understand the nuances, especially with them issuing a similar statement in Nevada. But really, for me, Prop 1 is a wake-up call to the Legislature that says we need to do something. This isn’t sustainable."

I very much doubt the church did as much thinking and praying about the nuance of this issue than this doctor. They certainly didn't about the (Policy of Exclusion) in 2015. They admitted as much when they reversed themselves in 2019. Too late for my dead friend, for whom I wear purple as referenced in my avatar. (wasmormon.org/reversing-the-no)

The law in place is killing people and putting them at risk. It is more strict than the church's own policy. They're funding a campaign to refuse its repeal purely for political, culture war purposes. It shows their worst, un-Christ-like tendencies.

Don't you just hate it when scrappy, working-class billionaires are challenged in their funding and advocation of hatred against an elitist, poor, disenfranchised minority? 🙄😡
