The idea of detaching users from being tied to a node or a repo is great for the autonomy of devs, and that it's built on custom network protocols that don't rely on #IPFS or #DHT is quite cool.
I'll need to return to this subject, because the idea of giving control to the people rather than large companies is an important issue. But what ways suit what use cases?

Okay so I did some research, a pure #p2p / #DHT implementation of a #dVPN doesn't exist!
I could try to implement it but coding a full assed DHT implementation, hole punching, wireguard bindings and interface seems... Troublesome
Though it would also scratch an itch that I've had for some time. So if anyone is experienced in networking, p2p, holepunching, whatever! Feel free to message me as this seems like a fun project to take on

После моей прошлой статьи прилетело много фидбэка.Я не эксперт в области торрентов, но благодаря комментариям узнал несколько интересных нюансов. Это вдохновило меня на продолжение предыдущей стати и создания мини-аналога IKnowWhatYouDownload (как оказалось, его можно сделать буквально за пару часов). Начнем с базы Разберемся, как работает IKnowWhatYouDownload (и подобные агрегаторы). Вот что говорят его создатели: Торрент-файлы попадают в нашу базу данных несколькими способами. Во-первых, мы собираем новинки с популярных торрент-сайтов (как зарубежных, так и российских). Во-вторых, у нас есть компоненты, которые постоянно мониторят DHT-сеть. Если кто-то ищет или анонсирует infohash, мы также добавляем его в базу. Данные по одному торрент-файлу собираются раз в несколько часов. Чем дольше вы находитесь на раздаче, тем выше вероятность попасть в нашу базу. Данные на сайте обновляются с задержкой в сутки. Обычно мы решаем другие задачи — отслеживать небольшое количество торрент файлов, получая по ним как можно больше данных. Как вы понимаете, на сайте идеология другая — получить по большому количеству торрент-файлов как можно больше данных, поэтому применяемые методы могут быть неточными. Да, кроме того, на сайте не отображаются данные старше 4х недель. Что такое DHT? DHT (Distributed Hash Table) — это технология, которая используется в торрент-сетях для децентрализованного поиска участников раздачи (пиров) без необходимости подключения к центральному трекеру. Вместо того чтобы полагаться на сервер, DHT позволяет каждому участнику сети хранить и обмениваться информацией о пирах напрямую.

Впервые за долгое время добрался до своих проектов и запилил фичу.Прикрутил к своему поисковику по DHT удобное получение ссылок на приватный RSS в профиле.
Сам-то я этим давно уже пользовался чтобы кормить Sonarr и Radarr свежими раздачами, но чтобы догадаться как этим пользоваться нужно было читать код и делать руками запросы в API.Надо будет ещё переработать формат RSS чтобы во всякие автокачалки отдавался в удобном им виде размер раздачи. А то у Sonarr/Radarr/Lidarr несколько долбанутый обработчик фидов, да и документация отсутствует.

How is one supposed to find files on #IPFS?
I love that it's based on #DHT of old https://docs.ipfs.tech/concepts/dht/#kademlia though in practice mediated by a central indexer (IPNI) https://docs.ipfs.tech/concepts/ipni/ .
But what made DHT useful in #eMule was the search by filename or other human-readable metadata, so of course they removed all of that!?

Yikes, seems like #WebTorrent is having trouble reaching the Mainline #DHT today or something. :/
Not ideal when trying to run tests! Might be a good reason to set up some more bootstrap nodes.

A thing I've been thinking about is whether word embedding could be used to build exhaustive distributed search. #P2P networks like #Kademlia use the 'closeness' of an ID's bit pattern to determine node neighbours: you could just as easily use a binary word embedding of a search query to generate such an ID for lookup, and it has the lovely property that similar search queries get mapped to nearby areas of the #DHT address space.
