A couple years ago the 60s band The Ides Of March, best known for their song “Vehicle,” performed here at the local performing arts center and I went to take photos for the newspaper. One of the band’s members is Jim Peterik who wrote “Vehicle” and also wrote songs in the 80s as a member of the band Survivor. The band played some of those tunes that night along with this one Jim wrote for .38 Special.

The late afternoon jam: it’s a tapestry currently in my office I picked up at a head shop on Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis one sunny day in 1983. It’s a little faded now; it started out with a blue background but after time in places like the Middle East (2004 in Iraq), the Caribbean (2008 at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay) and, well, the passage of time in general, I think it’s holding up well. Like this tune.
