CW: cw food discussion - cakes
@constantorbit others mentioned Flour, they're consistently great, our usual go-to for years.
If the recipient is into marzipan, Danish Pastry House by #tufts in #MedfordMA has done some tasty, pretty cakes for me over the years, plus their pastries are tasty and gorgeous. https://danishpastryhouse.com/cakes/ -
And the Nachtschwärmer is very likely also a Morgenmuffel (grumpy in the morning).
[pronounced morganmouffelle]

Damn it, when I start my work day at 6:30 AM I *really* need to not work until 5 PM. 🙄

If you're in the Sonoma County CA area and looking for something excellent to do this weekend, I HIGHLY recommend the Occidental Community Choir concert "Postcards" (today in Sebastopol, tomorrow in Santa Rosa).
I went last night in Tomales and it was so good. Excellent choices of music, superb singing, great community. It will do your heart good.
(disclaimer: I have no affiliation with the group. Yet. I'm now thinking about auditioning 🙂)…

And to clarify it was actually other passengers who were getting on my nerves. Staff were fine. #airport #travel #hellIsOtherPeople

Public transit home worked very well. Made perfect connection to the SMART train (even though the driver disappeared to take a bio break, so it was a little closer than planned) but I actually got an earlier train than planned, so all fine.
After the train, the bus for the last leg was departing in 15 minutes but since I could walk home in the same amount of time, I just walked it.

I get very misanthropic in airports sometimes. I should probably think about that sometime.
-
People (passengers and staff) are just NICER in small airports.
(Well, the people in first class were still snooty but they'll be the first under the guillotines when the revolution comes)

Leg 3
Micro transit ftw
This is SMART Connect but I guess they subcontract it out.

Leg 2
SMART train
I know, I know, but we don't say "mind" over on this side of the pond

Leg 1
Free! Nice driver! Brand spanking new bus! But no other riders... 😢

Unreasonably excited to do the first leg of travel up to Seattle today all on public transit. Bus (Petaluma Transit, free!) → Train (SMART train) → Microtransit (SMART Connect)

Seattle peeps! Any suggestions on things to do this weekend with my sister while I'm visiting her there? She has mobility issues so nothing with a lot of walking.
I'm just wondering if there's things I've not thought of that we haven't done.
In past visits we've done:
- we usually will hop a ferry somewhere, just for the fun of it
- Kubota Garden
- driven through Arboretum
- Frye Art Museum
- Seattle Art Museum
- Tacoma - Point Defiance park
- Snoqualmie Fallsthat kind of thing... anything I'm maybe not thinking of?
Thanks!

Fixed data live on a call with a very sensitive customer.
😰
Yeah, that's not something I want to do again for a long time.

I felt like my coffee grinder was taking longer to grind than before, so I looked up instructions on how to clean it, and they recommend (for dark roast like I do) cleaning every 4-6 weeks.
I don't think I've cleaned it in 2 years.
Oops.
(don't everybody @ me, I yam what I yam)

dang it, I just agreed to go swimming tomorrow with my gf's 7(?)-year-old neighbor. He's very cute.
But the heat's not on in the pool yet. It's going to be frigging cold.

Anybody using 5G for their home internet? My girlfriend has terribly slow and horribly over-priced AT&T but it doesn't look like she has any other wired option...
She can get T-Mobile 5G home internet here (I'd probably do it through my Mint Mobile account, slightly cheaper), and even the minimum advertised download bandwidth would be 10x (yes, 10x) what she currently has, and it would be SO much more inexpensive.
I assume you run into some congestion at times? How does it work, I assume it's like a bunch of 5G cell phones in a box? 😆
I'd prefer something wired but looks like there's just no other option in her apartment complex.

@DeliaChristina 😆 I LOVE that one. Was trying to explain it to friends over drinks the other night (it was too noisy to just play it for them)
(I was going to post that one to our work Slack #jams channel but... edges just close enough to NSFW. So no.)
Merry christmas!

The human brain is so weird.
I've been struggling with a thorny programming implementation issue most of the day and not making much progress.
So I took myself out for a walk, and not 10 minutes into the walk the solution was as clear as day, and ridiculously simple. I coded it up and it looks like it works. Yeesh.

How many tries does it take to get christmas card labels to print without being off the label or on the wrong side of the sheet? 🙄

Last night's first Cantiamo Sonoma concert went pretty well, I'd say.
I'd forgotten how unnerving and exposed-feeling it can be to sing in a small unaccompanied vocal group in front of a full house. Been a very long time since I've sung in a group this small. I love it, but it's challenging!
I think we started out well and then for some reason lost some confidence about mid-way through. Not sure why. And I think we were singing too loud, in general. But the audience seemed to really like the performance.
And now of course today I am sick. A cold, I think, but very annoying. Taking it VERY easy (despite having lots of work to do and Christmas prep to do!) in hopes of shaking it by the next concert tomorrow night.

Neal Stephenson's "Termination Shock" started out really good but it's really bogging down. If it doesn't pick up soon this may be a did-not-finish.
I'm listening to it on audiobook.

"How do you say I miss you
To an answering machine?"Such a f*cking amazing album. If this song doesn't tear at your soul, you have no soul.
