It's good to set up at least one Freedom-working PC at the night school. It's always worthwhile to go and see who shows up, talk with people.. There are times when it seems like the bother of starting the PCs could be skipped. This time a 9?yo girl found 3 G-Compris activities while I talked with a young guy from the Social Welfare office. When she was done with the PCs I sat at the poetry table we caught up on Luddites, Byron, Bender and Gebru.

昨日のよう学校は今まで一番人が少なかった。 やっぱり冷い冬の夜、 家から出て行くのが辛いかも。 だけど、 充実していた。 中学校の先生たちと新聞記者さんとGDM^1とフリーソフト^2の話をした。先生たちに GCompris, TuxPaint, TuxTyping、Emacs Psychotherapist(「ネットバカ」のイライザ?で有名なAI?)体験を。 そしてRacket Slideshow^3とdocsで基礎プログラミングの習い方、教え方を一緒に考えて行こう雰囲気になった。 今、持って行くパソコンがぼろすぎる。 今度もっと性能のいい奴でRacketを使った頭体操します!!

I try to get regular cellphone photos before doing the Insta upload evil thing. But I stepped away from a great conversation with the poetry group to get the photo up before more than half thetime ended. It worked! My buddy showed up and we talked with nice people. The poetry group conversation flared up again too, we went from Kobayashi Issa on flies to WireBugs in grasshoppers to Kaneko Isuzu: "Everyone's different, everyone's good."

No photos in my camera from last nights "PC Saving" slot at the Free Night School. The time is dedicated to Free Software and two Moms and a kid played with TuxPaint and G-Compris. The color matching activity in G-Compris seems to fascinate. And the TuxPaint stamps with frog and bird pictures looks fun. The new Mom (a recent Mom brought her friend) seemed interested in putting the Free OS and activities on an old computer....

Every Wednesday night, I try to take some old PCs to the local Free Night School. Many nights the Debian PCs just wait on a table while I walk around to talk with people reading poetry, doing geography quizes, practicing dance... But last week a family of five had their 3 kids exploring G Compris (Forgot photos!) This week a little girl gave up dance with the big kids and played with #TuxPaint before finding all sort of stuff in #GCompris.

> よく話を聞くと、彼は古くなった昔のWindowsにフリーソフトを入れて使えるようにし、夜な夜なパソコンを救っているらしい。今日持ってきていたのは、Windows Vistaという古いものみたい。今日は、タイピングのゲームみたいなものをやらせてもらったり、昔のAIみたいなものを試させてもらった。

A student was nice enough to set up a [matrix] id and be interested in the Free Night School. Not being good with schedules I couldn't answer questions better than directing him to the org's Instagram account. Withe "yorugakkou" he found the account and sent me a screenshot. A guy runs around with his phone at the start on Friday Nights. I hit a similar pose before and he said "It's video!" Scary.

The Free Night School was moved to another building by a great biotope pond last night. It was hot but nice with various little areas for chatting, impromptu epgdm lessons... A primary school student got into G-Compris puzzles and Uni student got into tux typing. And I was entrusted with someones old Win7 PC for the first time. Rainy Saturday was good to be a "Linux Creature" between guests and park visits.

Necessity is the mother of invention. The extension cord wasn't in the box of old PCs that go to the Free Night School. It's better to put a table up against a wall by the sockets anyway. Less chance for someone to trip over cords and pull PCs off the table or break connectors.. No one used the PCs this time but eventually I'll install Debian/Gnome, GCompris, TuxPaint, emacs, fraqtive etc onto someone's old PC.

The Free Software timeslot on Fridays is nice. There are more participants, I'm more relaxed. Tuxpaint is hard to get into in the midst of so much activity: a DJ, boardgames, crochet, a soccer game right outside... but a mother/son combo explored tux-typing and GCompris puzzles. Eventually I'll have to adjust the TuxType lessons to match the Japanese keyboards. I raced 6 people through 5 GDM lessons..

The Night School's Free Software (PC Saviour Group) time-slot was moved from Wednesday to Tuesday for a month. It's tiring with Wed. night devoted to an English class at a nursing school, but rewarding. With a free meal and three venues, Tues nights are fascinating. It took two weeks of to see how to work the Free OS PCs into the Tuesday activities. I'll just set them up on this AC unit by a plug. Too much going on for serious screen time, but they're conversation starters.

A second time to Tuesday's Night School. With the meal and four venues there is a lot more going on than Wednesday Night, and maybe more variety than the more playful Friday night. It's good to learn more people's names. It's surprisingly moving to be randomly called by your name there. My Tuesday night participation is by chance but I lucked out with epiphany: this is more of a communal long house feel than a school system. Got me thinking of Kurt Vonnegut on the nuclear family. #三股よる学校 #Yよる学校

とても古い(32ビットとか)のPCはちょっと時間がかかる。 そしてBlenderみたいなアプリの体験がちょっと無理かもしれません。 だけどウィンドーズ10が動くけど、Win11が無理ぐらいのＰＣがたくさん出てこれば、 何でもできるだろうと思う。
週末の経験を活かすために、 職場のコーピー室に放棄されているパソコンを蘇えてみた。
