  1. Dunno what the total is now, but between 2000 and March 19, 2021 the total was 13 deaths. I think at least a couple last year... maybe more. Got to be a couple of dozen at least in recent years. So, not a theoretical safety risk, an actual one.

AP: 13 have died since 2000 on Angels Landing trail at Zion (published March 19, 2021)

  2. Hmmm. It's quiet here. Not a lot of people. In fact, I haven't seen another hiker all morning.

The stream makes its easy, peaceful way through the landscape, not in a hurry, not in a hurry at all.

    Neither am I.

  3. It was a quiet little stream, making its merry little way through the landscape.

Not in a hurry. Not in a rush. Not worried about being a mighty river.

Just making its merry little way through the landscape, as was I.

  4. “Sandstone and Trees” — Scattered trees find footholds in cracks in the weathering sandstone, Zion National Park.

Except for one element, you could find a similar scene in California’s Sierra Nevada. That one element? The intense coloration of the Utah sandstone red rock formations. The contrast between the green trees and the red sandstone is striking, as is the complexity of the geology —with strata and layers intersecting and exfoliation gradually removing the topmost layers…more: gdanmitchell.com/2026/03/21/sa

  5. Think about roads. Think about how very many of them there are on this planet, from freeways to highways to country roads to primitive gravelways running through isolated landscapes.

They all go somewhere, all pass by and through landscapes that we sometimes observe and see, and other times rush through without noticing anything at all.

  6. ”Trees on Sandstone Cliff ” — Two small trees grow from cracks in a sandstone cliff, Zion National Park.

Today I am sharing yet another “lost and found” photograph, again from a decade-ago visit to Utah and, in this case, Zion National Park. (“Lost and found” photographs disappeared into my raw file archives, only to be rediscovered years later.) This one features a bit of vegetation, including some with developing fall color, growing in the cracks of a sandstone cliff…more: gdanmitchell.com/2026/03/05/tr

  7. “Below the Cliff” — Trees at the base of a sandstone cliff, Zion National Park.

This photograph comes from a trip to Utah and Zion National Park over a dozen years ago. It is also another of my “lost and found” photographs — from a file that has languished in my raw file archives since that time. I think I may have left it behind after working up a different photograph of the same cliff…more: gdanmitchell.com/2026/03/01/be

  8. “Zion High Country, Evening” — Fall colors in the high country of Zion National Park late in the day.

I made this photograph very close to the end of a lengthy visit to Utah, where I photographed across the southern part of the state. After photographing alone for days and then collaboratively with friends and fellow photographers, I left the others behind and joined my family at Zion National Park…more: gdanmitchell.com/2026/02/18/zi

  9. “Trees and Sandstone Cliffs” — Trees near the base of sandstone cliffs, Zion Canyon.

There is a lot going on here related to textures and colors. Color first: the cliff and tree colors are almost complementary. The green trees at the base of the cliff are in full shade. The further cliff face is getting both direct and reflected light. The cliffs seem massive and solid, but the surfaces are surprisingly varied. We see lighter and redder sections contrasting with almost-blue darker areas…continues: gdanmitchell.com/2026/01/31/tr

  10. It's not what I would call a cozy landscape, but then again, not all landscapes are. Some are rugged, resilient, toughened by weather and time and a climate bereft of soft rain to temper constant sunlight.

Through many details, they show their craggy, stubborn personality, and I admire them for it, and am inspired by it.

  11. It wasn't a mighty and enormous river, one with a name that everyone recognized worldwide. But that didn't mean that it didn't make a difference as it flowed through its landscape, didn't have a purpose in its journey, or didn't deserve to exist.

Because, you know, Big isn't the only size tht rivers come in.

  12. “One Small Tree” — A lone tree grows from a crack in a sandstone cliff, Zion Canyon.

The massive layers of red sandstone in the American Southwest are impressive. But seeing that plants manage to live on these formations is equally so. The variety of ways they eke out a living is surprising — at the bottom of huge holes in the rock, in tiny cracks, along ledges. Here a small tree adds a contrasting bit of green to the sandstone cliff…continues: gdanmitchell.com/2026/01/12/on

  13. “Virgin River, Zion Canyon” — The Virgin river flows past trees and sandstone formations, Zion National Park.

Judging from the muddy water, a substantial amount of Utah landscape appears to be disolved in the Virgin River and flowing out of the park! A walk through the bottomlands of Zion Canyon reveals a riparian landscape subject to periodic flooding. Seeing this, you can begin to understand the role that water has played in forming this remarkable landscape…continues: gdanmitchell.com/2026/01/09/vi

To #Enlighten the body, to turn the body into #energy, we need to raise the energy level within the body, through #prayer and #meditation. When we shift the #electromagneticfield of the body by 90°, the body turns into energy and we enter #Zion / #Elysium / #Avalon.

As soon as one tries to raise the energy level of the body, #demon attacks are likely to a cure, for they try everything to hinder us from entering.
