  1. #Morez (Jura) 🇫🇷, is a nice little town close to the Swiss🇨🇭border. In autumn 2004, when these photos were taken, the old-fashioned, charming train station has seen a variety of workings by the iconic (and meanwhile withdrawn) #SNCF class #X2800 Diesel units in their twilight years. #PastTrainTrips

  5. In South-Central France 🇫🇷: the “Gentiane-Express” of the “Chemins de Fer de la Haute-Auvergne” #CFHA. Former #SNCF #X2800, #RGP and other diesel units are working the tourist trains on this scenic line in the #Cantal mountains area.

  9. #Rodez 🇫🇷 station in autumn 1991: I was taking the #SNCF #X2800 railcar pictured here. To the left, under the nice station roof, we see a “DEV inox” carriage, probably being part of the consist of the night-train to/from #Paris.

  11. #SNCF 🇫🇷 #X2800 railcar “noses” at Saint-Claude. In the early 2000s, this place in the #Jura hills, east of Lyon and not too far from the Swiss border, used to be a refuge for aging railcars working regional services in the area.

  13. Saint-Claude 🇫🇷 station in autumn 2004: a set of two #SNCF #X2800 railcars awaiting departure for #Morez (Jura). This area, northeast of Lyon, used to be among the last ones seeing workings of these iconic French railcars that were built around 1960.

  15. A fairly long consist (“cinq caisses”) composed of two #SNCF 🇫🇷 #X2800 railcars, top’n’tail on either end, and three #XR6000 and #XR6100 intermediate trailers. Photo taken at Bourg-en-Bresse in or around 2004. This, probably, is a #TER regional service for #Lyon.

  17. Saint-Claude 🇫🇷 (Jura) is a railway hub northeast of Lyon, and it used to be a sanctuary for elderly #SNCF #X2720 “RGP” and class #X2800 “Bleu d’Auvergne” railcars in the early 2000s.

  19. Rural #France 🇫🇷 in the early 2000s: a somewhat sad sight with this single #SNCF #X2800 railcar, close to the end of its career, on a #TER service near Bourg-en-Bresse. The 1970s train station sign (on the left) has become illegible, with letters fallen off and the glass broken.

  21. An #SNCF 🇫🇷 #X2800 railcar at #Eygurande-Merlines. Photos taken in or around 2002. The station, bordering the Massif Central mountains and equipped with mechanical signals, used to be a railway hub on the #Ussel to #Clermont-Ferrand line.

  25. In the next few days I will post some railcar pictures taken in France about 20 years ago. Today: passing under the #Ussel 🇫🇷 station chandelier, the signal bridge at the western end of the platforms, is a Limoges-based #SNCF class #X2800 railcar together with its #XR6000 trailer. Photo taken ca. 2003.

  27. Evening at #Laqueuille 🇫🇷. A station name hard to spell (for the foreigner at least) and a place of old railway charm hard to beat. Back in May 2007, when I took this photo, #SNCF class #X2800 railcars were still a common sight on rural mountain lines across the Massif Central.

  29. Le Col des Roches is one of the minor border crossings in the #Jura mountains: trains connecting Le Locle🇨🇭and Morteau 🇫🇷 run alongside the #Doubs river here. Until a couple of years ago the classic #X2800 #SNCF railcars could be seen on this line.
