…Today Division O will continue with fire suppression repair around the northeast section of the fire perimeter. Division Q has completed the indirect line connecting FS414 to FS404. They will continue working down FR 404, removing brush and improving the road so it can be used as a potential fire break. Division Z will continue to assess infrastructure and residences along the Hwy 141. Multiple Type 1 Hotshot Crews were brought in to work on some of the challenges in Division A. Today the hotshot crews will be working in Division A constructing a direct fireline. This means they will work right alongside the edge of the fireline and remove fuels down to bare soil.

The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team arrived yesterday and will begin the work to evaluate potential post-fire threats of flooding, debris flows, hazardous materials, cultural and historic sites, and hazard trees, as well as impacts to vegetation, wildlife, and recreation...

    Weather & Fire Behavior:
There is a Red Flag Warning for the fire area from 1:00 until 7:00 PM. Fire activity is expected to increase as part of the forecasted Red Flag Warning. The longer-range forecast calls for more hot and dry weather. In the afternoon, gusty and erratic winds can be expected near isolated thunderstorms with potential for gusty outflow winds reaching 45mph…

The arrival of critical fire weather has increased fire activity as forecasted. Fire managers anticipated this and completed contingencies over the past week in preparation for the weather change. The increased fire activity has been observed across all divisions and will be producing visible smoke from fire inside containment lines.

Additional resources are arriving to replace the current firefighters and overhead resources that are timing out over the next week. Incident management will be transferred to a Type 3 Incident Management Team on Monday, July 28th. The Rocky Mountain CIMT1 will be hosting a community meeting tonight, July 26 at 6 p.m. at Gateway Community Center.

    Turner Gulch

DIV A: Firefighters are monitoring increased activity in the inaccessible areas below the steep ridge in the southwest portion of the fire. Resources are ready to engage any fire that backs out of the area towards the light fuels near prepared contingency lines. Smoke will continue to be visible in the area over the next few weeks.

    DIV Z:

Suppression repair activities to rehabilitate containment lines created by firefighters and heavy equipment are ongoing. Firefighters are monitoring the increased fire activity in the interior portions of the division. Heavy fuels with residual heat are producing smoke that may be visible from Highway 141.

Firefighters are vigilantly monitoring the Wright Draw fire with aerial reconnaissance from helicopters and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) equipped with infrared sensors. There is very little fire activity in the division. Containment has increased to 92% as additional areas of the inaccessible portions along the cliffs on the east side have been secured.

    Weather and Fire Behavior:
Fire behavior has intensified with the arrival of warm, dry air from the southwest. This airmass has also carried smoke from fires in the region. These conditions are forecasted to persist through early next week, and fire managers are cognizant of the potential for near-critical or critical fire weather over the weekend. Strategy and tactics have been matched to the opportunities presented by the fuel and weather as conditions have changed.

Weather and Fire Behavior: Isolated dry thunderstorms are expected today with high temperatures near 80. The minimum RH will range from 17-27% and winds will be out of the southwest with gusts to 20 miles per hour. While the current cloud and smoke cover helps cool fire activity, the underlying hot and dry conditions are not expected to change. Update from Turner Gulch and Wright Draw Fires page:

Current Situation: Crews are making progress in establishing containment features around the Turner Gulch and Wright Draw fires as structure preparation from the past few days continues.

While rainfall on Friday tempered fire activity on both fires, the east and southwest sides of Turner Gulch are still actively burning. This region of the Turner Gulch Fire did not receive the same rainfall as the western side, making conditions favorable for firefighters, including night crews and Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), to conduct strategic firing operations. Firing operations will remove unburned fuels between the fire and prepared control features – roads, trails, and constructed hand line – south and southeast of the fire.

Firing operations will primarily occur at night but may occur during the day if conditions are favorable. As firing operations progress, additional smoke may be visible in the fire area.

    Wright Draw –

Division CC covers all the Wright Draw Fire. On the north flank of the fire, existing roads and dozer line will be used to prevent fire spread to private land to the north. Today, firefighters will be identifying access points on the west and east flanks of the fire to look for containment opportunities..
