  1. Hey #minecraft fedi, @RedstoneLP2 and i are putting together a small #modpack for a private server (and might release it if time and licences allow).

    Does anyone have recommendations for ore generation mods or datapacks?

    We're looking to make ore veins larger, but less frequent, and more homogenous (e.g. 1-2 types per biome-sized region), so that travel and exploration is more rewarding.

    Currently testing on 1.20.1 and fabric, but that's not set in stone yet.

  6. I feel like this world will be a good one. First spawn in and I'm on a tiny little cliff between this water and a ravine. And my starter chest is floating above the water. Looks like I'll have to make some changes to spawn.

  16. This weekend I wanted to do some fun programming so I played around with Perlin noise. It's a function for generating an even distribution of noise over a coordinate system.

    So I wrote a quick app that constructs a bitmap designed to visualize the 3 separate noise functions on a 2D plane.

    At a foundational level, this is how Minecraft and other games with procedural generation create terrain variation and generate biomes.
