I was using pdflatex to generate receipts for product purchases on my website, and I found it didn't have very good international multilingual unicode support. I found wkhtmltopdf, which works great for me. On a digitalocean debian server, I'm producing receipts that closely mimic my on-line HTML receipts in 16 languages. I highly recommend wkhtmltopdf.

I’m flabbergasted. I’ve been using #wkhtmltopdf for over a decade now I think to generate my PDF’s. Always without issue. But since some months the footers in my PDF’s would not show anymore. After a couple of renderings it would work again. But now it simply won’t anymore.
Nothing has changed in the styling of my HTML. Remove styling? It shows up. Remove the header? It shows up. Remove the image from the header? Locally the footer shows, remotely it doesn’t. It’s the same Docker container!

The weird thing is: the load isn't simply rejected, the entire conversion job fails! Patching up network manager in #wkhtmltopdf wouldn't normally produce this result, neither running #wkhtmltopdf behind a blacklisting proxy. #ssrf #bugbounty #infosec

#wkhtmltopdf itself only allows blacklisting local files, not IP addresses. I also couldn't find any projects that would add such capabilities to it. Yet the blacklist is quite sophisticated and cannot be tricked by hiding the IP behind DNS or HTTP redirects. #ssrf #bugbounty #infosec

I found a web service passing HTML code to #wkhtmltopdf running on AWS. It will happily load stuff from anywhere, but linking to localhost or 169.254.169.254 makes it produce 500 Internal Server Error. Any idea how that blacklist is implemented? #ssrf #bugbounty #infosec
