Had an absolute blast playing White Sands #ttrpg with loved ones today! I DMed the first half, and one of my partners volunteered to DM another bit we could seamlessly append to the first one, so that I got to play as well. I decided to make my character a #trans woman very early in her hormonal transition, which felt very intimate to me but was also very fun. She almost died at the end in an epic and glorious scene, but surprisingly survived because of some kindness our group had shown earlier in the adventure.
I'm not sure about the system, it did have a couple of hiccoughs, but overall it was really fun and worked well for a Oneshot. So I'm happy with that, and since I had an absolutely fantastic day with it, glad I bought it!

Another civilian death, another secret test. A #medevac King Air vanished over #NewMexico after the #AirForce jammed #GPS at #WhiteSands – a routine “electronic‑warfare” drill they hide from the public. The crash proves how military tech turns our skies into battlefields, endangering ordinary people while the Pentagoons, backed by foreign, Israeli allies, refuses accountability.

A soaptree yucca's flowers in the interdune zone of White Sands.
Thin clouds softened the lighting and kept the shadows from being too deep and harsh.

The gypsum sand of White Sands can be 'cemented' together when it gets wet from occasional desert rains, but it's really quite soft and lacks any durability.
A branch, waving in the breeze, easily scratches into the White Sands 'cement'. If you thump this stuff with your finger tips, it sounds almost hollow.

Tracks in the gypsum sand of White Sands are easy to see right after sunrise when the sun is low and casts long shadows.
1st: A lizard dragged its tail in the sand as it walked along slowly.
2nd: Black stinkbugs have a wide stance and one track almost looks like two narrow-stance tracks.

Discover Your Own Slice of Paradise at a Hidden Beach
Hideaway BeachWhile wandering through the varied and lush tropical foliage, the air thick with the scent of blooming flowers and the sound of rustling fronds, I marveled at the vibrant greens surrounding me. The sun filtered through the canopy, casting dappled light on the path ahead.
As I ventured further, I stumbled upon a hidden trail – less trodden, yet inviting. Curiosity propelled me forward, and soon, the dense flora opened up to reveal a breathtaking sight: a secret resort beach.
Soft white sands glistened brightly under the sun like diamond dust. Crystal-clear turquoise waters lapped gently at the shore, creating a melody that harmonized with the echoing calls of tropical birds. Palm trees swayed lazily in the breeze, offering shade and a sense of serenity, making it a sanctuary from a busy world.
It wasn’t just a destination; it was a total sensory reset. In that moment, tucked away from the rest of life’s stresses, I hadn’t just found a beach – I’d found a version of paradise that felt like it belonged to those courageous enough to seek it out.
Many times the best travel experiences aren’t the ones we plan months in advance. They are the ones that require us to be a little bit lost, a little bit sweaty, and a whole lot of curious.
Pro Tip: Always take the less traveled path. Usually, it leads to the best memories and maybe even the best views.Words and images by Michael J. Hall

If you live near White Sands Missile Range, this is a normal daily view.

This view of White Sands, the Tularosa basin, and distant mountain ranges probably looks a little off to you.
That's because it was taken in near-infrared, which removes most of the haziness we see in photos of distant objects. The haziness is a visual depth/distance cue that we rely on when looking at distant terrain.
The gypsum dunes of White Sands are 25 miles away, the first mountain range is 50 miles, and the most distant ridge line is 120 miles away...which does not make sense when looking at this photo.

A long look across the Tularosa Basin shortly after sunrise. The sun is at my back, so haze is not much of a problem.
The dunes of White Sands, 25 miles away, cast shadows on the basin floor. The San Andres mountains mark the far end of the basin. Beyond them are the Caballo mountains near Truth or Consequences, and finally the Black Range in the Aldo Leopold Wilderness.
Compare this view to yesterday afternoon when the sun was almost shining into the camera and making for a very hazy view:
https://universeodon.com/@KrajciTom/115670069997527668The second photo is a close crop of a different mountain. The white blob on the ridge saddle is Magdalena Ridge Observatory, 120 miles away:

An unusual view of White Sands, the Tularosa Basin, and the San Andres mountains and the Black Range.
On a clear day you can see forever, but if you're looking toward the late afternoon sun across many miles...it's a very hazy view even on the best of days.
This image appears very compressed because I used a very long telephoto lens. The bottom of the frame features the gypsum dunes of White Sands...one mile below me and 25 miles away.
The flat Tularosa Basin stretches for many more miles and is bordered by the San Andres mountains 50 miles away. Very little terrain relief is visible on the mountains because of the strong haze.
The most distant ridges, even more obscured by haze, belong to the Black Range 120 miles away.

Sand Wave
It's not an actual sand wave, but it is a sand dune growing off the hardpacked earth in the foreground.
