  1. Speaking of D&D classes, and magazines, and specifically White Dwarf. In Issue 35, they presented a Necromancer class. Then in Issue 36, someone presented some follow up spell abilities for the class.

Want to know who wrote these abilities in 1982?

    @GraemeDavis

He is still around and making RPG additions to this day.

  2. Eternal ponderings. D&D did not have perception as an ability score.

In my homebrew, I added perception.

Come to find out, such quandaries were happening since the beginning. In White Dwarf Magazine Issue 17 published February 1980, Barney Sloane proposed the same idea.

  6. Beautiful new cover at Nature Astronomy's

Concentric shells of highly ionized calcium and sulfur in the ejecta of a type Ia supernova provide evidence of the double-detonation scenario for exploding sub-Chandrasekhar-mass white dwarfs.

  7. New evidence that some #supernovae may be a “double detonation”
A hypothesis that doesn't require as much mass: a relatively small explosion on a #whitedwarf's surface can compress the interior enough to restart fusion in #stars that haven't yet reached a critical mass. Now, observations of the remains of a #supernova provide some evidence of the existence of these so-called "double detonation" supernovae.

  9. A star's life begins in a #Nebula, a cloud of gas and dust.

It spends most of its life fusing hydrogen into helium, eventually evolving into a #RedGiant or #Supergiant before potentially ending as a #WhiteDwarf, #Neutron #Star, or #BlackHole.

  11. Coming soon! — Nova explosion visible to the naked eye expected any day now

Sometime between May and September, a #WhiteDwarf is expected to go thermonuclear.

    Jacek Krywko - 5/21/2024,

"When you look at the northern sky, you can follow the arm of the Big Dipper as it arcs around toward the bright star called Arcturus. Roughly in the middle of that arc, you'll find the Northern Crown constellation, which looks a bit like a smiley face. Sometime between now and September, if you look to the left-hand side of the Northern Crown, what will look like a new star will shine for five days or so.

"This star system is called T. Coronae Borealis, also known as the #BlazeStar, and most of the time, it is way too dim to be visible to the naked eye. But once roughly every 80 years, a violent thermonuclear explosion makes it over 10,000 times brighter. The last time it happened was in 1946, so now it’s our turn to see it."

  12. A fascinating and unlikely pair, perhaps doomed in the future.
Would love to watch a white dwarf devour a brown dwarf, wonder how many other stellar remnants have eaten their lesser twin and would we know?

  13. Helium-burning white dwarf:
Using #ESA_XMM and #eROSITA #spacetelescope, a team lead by #MPE researchers discovered a #binarystar🌟🌟, where material flows onto a #WhiteDwarf, but instead of #hydrogen, the material is #helium, making it the first helium-burning white dwarf ever discovered!
