Heute geht hier auch mal "ein Türchen" auf - die Rostocker #stadtgestalten () haben auch einen #Webcal / Digitalen Kalender der sich in 3 Schritten easy z.B. in #Thunderbird integrieren lässt. Ein Traum!

  2. I've been experimenting with #WebCAL subscription on #Android and the difficulties encountered clearly show how much power the owners of the devices in our pockets have.

Such a simple operation like "following" peers is made hard for no technical reason: stock apps do not support that, you have to install something external.

As of today what you need is: install #ICSx5 to subscribe and #ETAR to also see the URL field of the events.

Do you know any simpler way ?

  6. Android's lack of built-in CalDAV, CardDAV, and WebCAL support is really annoying :neofox_what:

I can't imagine it's for any reason other than Google wanting people to use their Google account for Contacts and Calendar instead.

WebCAL is a great example of it. It's not common for people to subscribe to WebCAL calendars, even though it'd be an insanely easy way to share events with people and have it update on the fly if something changes. I think a big reason for its lack of popularity is because Android makes it so difficult. If you want to add a calendar subscription, you either need to grab a computer, go to calendar.google.com, + a new calendar, from URL, then paste in a link to the iCal file, or you need to pay $2 for ICSx5 (you can get it for free on FDroid but most people aren't going to do that).

Meanwhile on iOS, to subscribe to a calendar you just click the WebCAL link for the calendar. :blobfoxfloof_w_: Like ???

  7. "No, I’m sorry, Thunderbird’s calendar isn’t a good calendar. It’s dialog boxes from 1998 coming up with that “donk!” sound, not being dismissable immediately, and also coming up twice for no reason, or telling you that you modified the event when you didn’t"

@nadim writes about the (bad) state of calendar software on desktop.

  8. It is wild that I'm potentially solving a higgs-bugson in #GNOMECalendar's handling of some broken #CalDAV / #Webcal calendar providers (for servers using hardcore firewalling rules), a 6-years mystery… with a 1-liner fix that just sets a User-Agent string for #GNOME Calendar's #libsoup to identify itself when doing the initial URL validity check 🤨️

Thanks to @s3phy's ingenious network/HTTP troubleshooting!

  9. Dear colleagues:
Calendar events can sit in an *.ics file, fine; I can create one and it works. However, I want to generate a clickable link on a website, possibly using the `webcal:` protocol, including the event als ical *string* – not linking to an *.ics file. Is this possible at all?
It would be so much easier to create "add to my calendar" buttons this way.
Thanking you for your thoughts in advance!

  10. Want to add US national holidays to your Vivaldi Calendar? Go to Vivaldi Settings: Calendars: Accounts: Add (+): Web Calendar, and paste the address calendars.icloud.com/holidays/ (You can modify the country and language code at the end of the URL for other regions!) The calendar won’t update if you click the link and only import it once instead of setting up an account to track it. #WebCAL #Calendar #VivaldiBrowser
