  1. I can hear the thunder in the distance for a while now. And sometimes there are some flashes to be seen as well.
The upstairs windows are cracked open a bit, but not as far as rain could come in.
The downstairs windows are open too, and the kitchen door. But when the threatening rain comes closer, I'll quickly close the door. Don't want to be caught in this thunderstorm ⛈️.
It's slowly getting cooler now, which is very welcome.
About half an hour to go, and then the weather should get bad here... Hopefully Koa can do a number one, and maybe a number two, before the rain, thunder, and lightning arrive here...

Due to the heatwave we've been experiencing here, the floor cooling system has been running a lot. This consumes a bit of energy, but it also helps to keep the house cooler a bit...
Plus, I recon that Koa enjoys the cooler floors to relax on when it's >35°C out...

Some neighbors have been complaining there was some condensation. And it's true, I have some as well, but mostly in the guest loo, and the bathroom. There are tiles there, and those areas have no direct sunlight/are used less, so they keep cooler to begin with.

The first year we lived here, I almost slipped on the tiled floor due to the condensation. Now, I know it can happen, and I try to air the areas better. But as I hear how hot some houses have become these days, I am glad that it's only 24°C indoors here now. 😊 I know it helped that I aired the house during the "colder" mornings, and that I kept everything as shut as possible when the sun was on it.

I'll mop the floors when it gets too bad, and I'm watching the outside temperature, so I can open everything up when it gets cooler out than in... But the comfort that the cooler floors give me, and Koa as well, I'd take some condensation to go with it...

Only today is anlther hot one, and then, finally, we should be able to "cool down" a bit. The normal average temperatures for June-July here are 23-24°C, so all these days with >28°C, pfff.... 😅

Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that it will finally get a bit cooler outside soon, so I can open up and let some fresh air through the house. I already opened up the attic room windows, as it was 27°C there, and it was cooler outside already. But the weather app says it's now 23°C, but my simple outdoor sensor gives it at 25 degrees, so I'll have to head out and feel the difference I guess...

Can't wait for the weather to calm down a bit again, so Koa and I can enjoy it more, and maybe I can take Koa to his first outdoor water side... He's played with the blue shell, but I've not taken him to the waterside yet. Maybe, if weather is OK tomorrow, I can ask mum if she's interested in going to the Hatertse Vennen early, to be with us when Koa can take his first splash... (I have a 5m line that I'll attach to him, and I believe his GPS tracker is water proof... Not that it is sure that he will swim right away). 😊

Enough babbling for now... Fortunately, Koa settled down now, without chewing the couch! 😁 Al ill relax a bit too, before we can head out for some short walkies.

Catch you all later lovelies! :bear_love:

Well... The grocery shopping this early morning went well.
The visit to the physio was good, and Skoosh managed to keep us cool during the drives, while still being a little economically aware hybrid (I had the aircon on 22°C for Koa, he wanted it cooler, but with temps above the 30°C, I didn't want to set it too cold), managing 24km/l.
Usually, we'd go to bed around 15. But now, I am sore and tired. It's too hot to do anything anyway...
The bedroom is near 25°C, so I hope the little cuddly blanket I use is cool enough.
Hopefully, Koa won't wake me up every 2-3 hours, as that's a bit too often, and too short, for me to properly get some rest from it. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 and all that.... 🍀
And I also hope that, when we do get up around midnight, it will be cooler... So I can take Koa for a relaxing walk... 😊

We'll get ready to head to bed now. Maybe I can get some more reading in, while I wait for the pain meds and sleeping supplements to kick in. 😇

Keep cool 🪭 everyone! And I'll catch you all after some good snoozing, I hope. 😉

I am glad for this cooler night. 🌔
The next few days will be extremely hot ones, so the cooler nights do help with cooling down the house some, to prepare for the next hot day.
Today, it's predicted to get to 30°C.
Wednesday and Thursday it's predicted to go up to 35°C.
Friday is even more nuts, showing 38°C in the forecast..!
To think that our usual average temperatures for June and July are at 23-24°C, these temps are just crazy.
But, last year, in between my surgeries and all that, we had these awfully hot days as well...
Still, doing my best to cool the house as best as I can. It's 17,5°C outside, according to the simple weather station sensor, and it almost feels cold when a slight breeze passes the house at times. 😊
I managed to get the indoors temp down another degree, it's a little over 21°C. But I'm sure, with the morning sun hitting the back of the house fully, when it comes up high enough... It will soon get warmer again.

I don't mind warmer weather, as my body hurts a little less then. But all these >25°C days, they're a bit too much for my liking.

Ah well, let's see how today will go. Keep cool everyone!

After two days with minor ⛈️ thunderstorms at night, we're now getting a bigger one. Loads of rumbling, many flashes, loads of rain...
When I heard the first rumbling, I "rushed" upstairs to close the windows (I had them open a bit to cool off the rooms), and I closed the kitchen door.
I got back to the couch, and I heard the frist drops fall down, so I was just in time...
Warm days here are usually accompanied by thunderstorms ⛈️. While I don't like the damage these storms can do, the sounds of the rain and thunder do soothe me at times...

Koa just "attacked" me with cuddles and bites... I tried to take a selfie, for which he stopped his nibbling haha! 😂

Hopefully, we can relax for a bit, and it may get dry for a while, so we can go for walkies. But the weather app reveals a lot more rain the next hour at least, so maybe it's a quick wee in the garden for Koa. Not going to walk in a bad thunderstorm...

Hope you're all having a good weekend!

Edit: saw a very stupid typo, that just *had* to be corrected. 😉

  6. Well... I am glad that, at this moment, Koa is snoozing peacefully in front of the couch, and I am relaxing on the couch...
Would we have been out for walkies, we might have needed a boat! When it comes down, it comes down with buckets 🪣 and all!
And, as quickly as the downpour started... It's off again... But for how long? 🤔

  7. Hobart reached a new highest temperature for May with 25.8 ºC at 12.58 this afternoon, exceeding the 25.7 ºC registered on the 1st in 1997.
And in the time it's taken me to type this up, it reached 26.0 ºC at 13.10
    Further increases remain possible.

  8. Another normal one coming up for Melbourne. Take care, folks. And, if you can, put out a dish of water in a shady spot for the birds.

  10. CW: Victorian bushfires, Melbourne weather

Good news: the cool change has reached this part of Melbourne.
Bad news: for many rural parts of Victoria, the Bureau of Meteorology's rain radar is functionally also a bushfire map due to pyrocumulonimbus clouds.

  11. Looks like the weather just hit this neighbourhood. The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting wind gusts later this afternoon of over 90 km/h.
